glad you got it figured out. that link to the optimization guide i posted also has info about that. you've got to make sure that you don't have a bunch of crap loading into your cache at startup. also - and i didn't know this when i last posted - there was an update for XP recently that caused svchost.exe to run like mad. there are several of them always running and sometimes they juice your CPU, but usually not at 100%. this latest update caused a glitch allowing them to eat up 100% or the CPU. there's a fix for it. if you end up with any more problems, check your task manager to see if svchost.exe (any of the 10 or so that are running at any given time) is eating a lot of your CPU. i have a link to a fix i can post. it may be the microsoft has already fixed it. wouldn't know since i don't run XP anymore.
very glad that you're running smoothly again. the voltage meter just went out in my brand new preamp. you guys wouldn't believe the battle i've had with gear over the last 2 months. i've spared all of you and only whined about it to FaceFizz. but i definitely can relate to your anxiety of not having equipment work properly. i'll probably send it back now and have to wait. i think i'm going to get an ART dual-channel tube pre. i'm still not convinec that a tube preamp is the best way to go for recording acoustic guitar, but i read about a cellist who uses the one i'm looking at and says it's great. keep your fingers crossed that the vendor doesn't try to screw me since i've already had to send back one thing because it wouldn';t work correctly with Vista.
also sorry that i've just given everyone a ton to read. i type pretty fast and can get a lot down pretty quickly. too bad for you guys! hope you get some more tracks up soon gunner! |

I have the automatic updates shut off for the XP thank god.....
but, anyway...as far as the tube pre-amp...ive heard that they are pretty good...
ya ill be hitting the record button real soon...but between work, life, ex-wife, new wife, writing music for my buddy's movie, and my 2 dogs, it is becoming difficult to find the time to just sit down and play on the PC ya know??
hope everything goes well with your issues!! |

Was it my imagination or did we used to get up to about 40 points per big posts a while ago... |
