new live track for you listening pleasure

hey everyone! i've been busy and therefore absent from the forums for the most part. it looks like i'm not the only one. Very Happy

this is a live version of our song 'Ficus.' it is pretty similar to the studio version, but has and extended ending. the recording isn't bad, but there are some noticeable flaws. we make a few mistakes along the way and some sloppy notes are played, as part of the extended ending is improvised. it was the first time we played it like that live. we're pretty pleased with how it turned out at the end of the day. you'll also get the general idea of where we've taken the song.

i hope to get a decent recording of one or two of our newer songs when we play in omaha next week let me now what you think! thanks!!! Cool

sorry. i had to take it down for a bit. after i tried to spruce it up a bit, i ended up with some nasty popping and other noise. i'll fix it and try to get it back up ASAP. thanks!

well, i've got something that works. i'll have to work with the EQ and some other stuff to get a bit better sound, but i'm also not sure it's worth it. it sounds pretty decent, although a bit too bright. that's mostly due to mic position. i need to set up my guitar in a very serious way.

i hope you enjoy and cross your fingers that we get a better version than this when we play omaha this tuesday. thanks!

just listening in now man... figure ill write while i listen... sounds like you got alot more respect from the audience there than the last place... i actually forgot you could play guitar after hearing your solo stuff Laughing

wow thats a really nice recording man!!!

nice man... cant hear many screw ups!!..lol.. youve done well to pull that out so well at short notice... ahh the extended ending.. yeah, that works nice man.... ill be sticking this one on me ipod when i get set up again... bet me bassist wouldnt mind having a listen too... good effort guys... hope your next one goes well for you too...

It would have been cool to see and hear this one live...as Facemeister said....really good recording for being live....and of applause is always nice eh??...lol

yeah, i'm glad it turned out as it did. we tried something different and didn't go with vocal mics. we don't direct line the guitars so we miked them where the neck meets the body. it's brighter than i like, but were were able to get more volume to puch us over the noise of the crowd (not cheers but blasted talking!...but they were actually pretty good this time). since the mikes were so high up, we could also just sing and it was loud enough to sound ambient, which works well with this track, but not so well with others. having 2 fewer mikes also kept the crowd noise down in the recording. we're playing omaha, ne tomorrow (wed.) and i hope to get another good take of that song, and another one we haven't put up yet but i sooooo desperately want you guys to hear. my pal was very ambitious when he wrote the foundation and it took forever before we had it together. it's like 7.5 min long and it's one part after the other. keep those fingers crossed. Laughing

my bandmate blew it the last time around, otherwise it probably would have already been posted. we were going along so nicely, then Executioner

i'm hopeful to get some video of us playing at some point. i've got a portion of 'Dull the Senses' that my wife took with her camera. Laughing

don't know what that is, but i know there is always a presence of feedback, which isn't cool at all. towards the end of the track there is a real degradation of sound quality as there was an issue with the recorder the club used. i had tried adding a couple subtle effects to "warm up" the track a bit, but it caused massive issues with the end of the track. that's why i took it down the first time around (i apologize to any of you who had a go with it the first time around!). Very Happy

i'd like to be able to use high-quality mikes, but the crowd noise is always too high. my hope is to get a better recording within the next month or two where i'll have figured out how to solve many of those problems in that club. feel free to tell me what 'larcene' means. thanks for your comments!
