re: announcement on UBW home page...
This is a re-posting of my review request for Nige and Trev's
'The Living World Of Sea Creatures Makes Me Want To Whistle' and
'Naomi And I We're Trees'

If you could cut and paste the review from the old site - Nigel & Trevor
would be eternally grateful Ron!
Cheers,

........The Living World of Sea Creatures .........Nige & Trev
Brief: Very Cool! You really don't sound like anybody else out there, but let me take a stab at a particular meld. They Might Be Giants meets Jack Black meets Bob Dylan meets Tom Waits... This is not your typical song!
Review
Songwriting (8 of 10) Very original songwriting here, and I appreciate original songwriting! I love hearing something for the first time and thinking, how did they come up with that!? That is exactly what happened to me after listening to "The Living World of Sea Creatures." In fact, it was still happening after the 3rd listen as well.
Vocals (8 of 10) The Vocals are great, and there are plenty of different vocal sounds to listen to. Lots of character voices, animal sounds, whistles, grunts and groans. I also love the female vocals that sing the title of the song. The combined effect is nice!
Music (8 of 10) The drums and bass keep a standard upbeat rhythm throughout. The accordian, electric, and acoustic guitars carry the mood changes, and do so very well. All the instruments are played and recorded very well.
Overall (8 of 10) I am a big believer and fan of originality, and that's what you get here, in spades. I like the upbeat feel of the songs, and the cast of characters that deliver the vocals. The music is very entertaining. For a good time...... Listen!!
.................. Naomi and I We're Trees
Brief: Alright, another meld, but totally different this time. James Brown meets the B52's meets Prince meets Blackbeard the Pirate.
Review
Songwriting (7 of 10) Although still a very interesting song, this song did not draw me in quite as much as "The living World..." I loved the original lyrics however, and the more I listened to the song, the more it grew on me.
Vocals (7 of 10) Again, there is great diversity in the vocals and lyrics. The verses are well delivered, and I really love the female accents throughout.
Music (8 of 10) The music reminds me of the cool R&B music that James Brown sings over. There are some interesting Prince style guitar riffs mixed throughout as well, which I enjoyed. The music is well performed and recorded.
Overall (7 of 10) Naomi and I We're Trees was a very enjoyable listen. Especially notable, the unique lyrics and melding of music styles. The accent guitars, and female accent vocals, provided a very unique ambience over a diverse R&B style rhythm.
Thanks NIGE and TREV. What a unique experience. Thank you very much for bringing your music to our attention. Good luck with your continued music career |
