I’m currently producing a student film and the project has reached a point where we really need to obtain some music. We are looking for a band or two who are willing to let us use their songs, and while there’s no money in it we can promise you a credit and a copy of the film, and it could be a good promotional opportunity for all concerned.
Mentality (title subject to change) is a Hamlet-inspired descent in to madness as the protagonist, a twentysomething waste of space named Ophelia, finds herself withdrawn and distant following a mysterious phone call. A night-time journey around London thrusts her in to contact with some suspicious characters who push her to the point of breaking before the action cuts dramatically to, briefly, a hospital and a churchyard… Thematically the film focuses on mental illness and the nature of belief, as well as delving in to familial relationships and post-modern alienation.
It’s kind of Donnie Darko meets Garden State, only with less scary bunnies.
We’re looking for several tracks to use in the film, most importantly for now is a song we can use during a party sequence as we really need it to choreograph the scene properly. Our test shoot used Before I Fall to Pieces by Razorlight and we really want something in that kind of vein- an upbeat melody but the lyrics painting a much more fractured picture.
Additionally we’re after tracks that are more subdued for the rest of the piece, and the best examples of what we want here are possibly Keane (the Difficult Second Album phase), Coldplay (before they became so painfully overrated) and Snow Patrol (in their less chirpy moods), stuff that’s quite melancholy.
If anyone’s interested I’d really appreciate it if you can get in contact with me, either here or via
absolutelyflabbergasted@hotmail.com
ideally with a sample of your work.
Our website is currently down due to an attack on the server, but should shortly be up and running again at http://film.simplysmashing.co.uk |

I'd like to volunteer some of our tracks for you to use. (download links are included)
"Anymore" - Is a very ambient and progressive metal track I hope you find useful somewhere.
Probably not for the party scene you mentioned, but maybe for the subdued sections.
"Brutal Is The Bitten Shy" - This track is less progressive and more ambient rock. Hopefully the intro to this track might be useful for you, as the song picks up the pace a bit towards the end.
Otherwise, you can check out our other tracks at

or www.seneki.com
or www.myspace.com/seneki
Let me know what you think either here or at seneki@gmail.com
Of course - We'd love you to use our stuff (and mention us in the credits ), but I am also interested in seeing the movie regardless - it sounds really interesting!
