Labels are afraid of MCs that they can't label or box into a category like "ganagster" or "underground" or "conscious rap". Why? They are afraid because when an MC it totally different from the MCs that are already established, they don't have a target audience. It's more work for them to try to discover their fan base and to expand it. I spoke with a label recently that said that my "content is too heavy; the industry is not ready for a female to touch on such controversial topics..."!! That made me so mad I recorded "The Reasons", the song I have on this site. They want another female talkin about the same shit because they have that target fan base. Never mind the fact that I'm nice with mines. I'm not easy to market! And I am not naked!

These labels are not afraid of real mc's. They know what they r doing, just keeping the mass public dumb.

Labels want money and if "dumb" rap is popular and leads to a lot of sales then thats what the big labels go for.

Label arent afraid of realness.. that are lookink to see if they invest in you will you bring them a big return on their investment..

If you are out doing shows, selllin over 100,000 +(ok I give you 20,000+) they will come to you with deals.. cause that shows them that you have a following and can push CD to customers and if will sell.

label just dont sign artist/groups anymore cause their A&R thinks their hot..they look at sells and what can you bring to their profits.

think about it..

Well, i think that some labels are out of touch with the masses. They push the dumb rap, but what I have been hearing from the masses is that they do want to hear music with a little more substance. Not all the time. Who wants to hear something real, real deep while partying? But most people I talk to agree that they want more conscious rap and lyrical content.

Medinah that "naked" stuff is playin out. Hip hop is goes in cycles. In the mid 90s with the jiggy shit, Kanye would have never blown up like this...now artists like Lupe, Talib, Kanye, Common etc. are finally getting some real acknowledgment. You will get your chance to shine because the industry is not gonna focus so much on selling sex since the last few females that went that route didn't do so well.

Not that I disagree with you but why do people always put Kanye West in that "alternative" category? He's not that different than the Jay-Z's, Young Jeezy's, and the Lil Wayne's.
