Hi everyone - haven't been around for a while....
Just wondered if there are any plans to create a UBW profile on MySpace.com - it's all the rage, and a lot of music hosting sites seem to have their own area up there. There are loads of unsigned artists on there too. If anyone hasn't seen it, you can add contacts ("friends") to promote music, gigs, events, and stuff like that. Ron, you could really plug UBW and maybe showcase the top monthly tracks (MySpace lets you have 4 tracks up at one time).
Any UBW artists started using it already? I've been on there for only a few months and I've got quite a big network of contacts through it. A lot of major artists are using it, and you can even get exclusive tracks from a lot of them. I've even got the likes of Moby, Martin L. Gore and Junkie XL signing up to be my "friend" and listening to my tracks.
If you're a member of myspace, then say hello and sign up to be my friend...
If you haven't seen it before, have a look at my profile as an example.....

I'm not a fan of myspace. I think the layout is bad and there are too many ads. I also think it's more a social service than an unsigned band promotional vehicle. Their purpose and setup isn't to promote unsigned bands but to build a 'community', kind of like friendster. I know lots of bands are on there and like it, but I guess I'm just different...lol
I honestly don’t think you’ll have many music scouts, etc, using myspace for business purposes; it’s just too hard to navigate through friends of friends of friends of friends. I prefer the method the Unsigned Band Web has utilized.
We actually did setup a space on there along time ago, but I just dont' like the way the whole thing works. I’m honestly quite perplexed at why so many bands do like it….
Anyways, all that being said, thanks for the feedback, and good luck to you.

Hi Ron,
I see what you mean about myspace - the adverts make it look a bit cheap in places, and I guess you aren't going to get may A&R people looking for new talent. I've come across a few record labels and radio stations with profiles on there, so maybe it's worth some of the UBW crowd having a presence on there. |

Rubbish... Visit both sites, pretend your a scout, and think about it.....
Myspace is big, that's why they get the nod in those kinds of articles.
But hey, utlimately, if that's what you want, go for it! That's the great thing about the web and all the internet music resources, plenty of places to promote!!! |
