Only rock and roll man, only rock and roll. In the words of Joan Jett, "I love rock and roll," well, I love it, and I love Joan Jett, just the Joan Jett from two decades ago, not the Joan Jett of now. |

I record onto my PC using Adobe Audition, I use an Audiophile 2496 sound card, a Zoom rhythm track, a Zoom guitar effects pedal and a microphone. I have a Peavey bass guitar and an Ibanez 6 string.
I mostly just experiment with things, a lot of the stuff I have on the UBW is quite old and was recorded using a Zoom multi track recording studio.
Recently the Multi track studio crashed and I had to send it back, and am currently waiting on a new set of speaker monitors and a mixing desk for DI`ing into the soundcard. Once I get them I will start working on new stuff.
I am really just learnng about recording at home just now so sometimes it sounds a little ropey, but I no longer work in a band either due to University commitments, so working at home when I have the time suits me fine.
I have found recording on the PC to be pretty good, you can get some really good quality recording sounds, and because its digital, what you play in is what you record and hear back. It beats tape recording anyday.
You should look at building your own home studio for recording. Its great if you dont want to devote your entire time to it, and once you have made the initial outlay of cash for the gear, you only have the electricity bill to pay for. No hiring of halls or producers or studios, and because it goes onto the pc, it is already in a format once mixed to download directly onto the UBW.
Hope you get something together soon so we can get a listen to your ideas.

Only problem i'm totally broke at the moment, but i could always go back too toonie sandwiches and cheap dates but the ultimate outcome should kick some serious ass,
I'm using a pc but does anyone know of a more mobile method of recording its allways fun too play with the acoustics of different places
hopefully i can get something down by the end of the year |

Save up and get yourself a recording desk.
I had a zoom digital one, it was ok apart from the fact it crashed and lost all my stuff, but the newer ones have usb outputs and cd writers on them so you can back your stuff up to the pc.
The problem with mine was it didnt have these options, so when the hard disc inside went, I lost all my recordings.
Check out this link for a budget digital 4 track recorder. It uses smart media cards which are better than hard disc options as they have no moving parts to wear down.

Dont know if it is any good, but it sounds like a neat little toy to start with.

Hey Mad, i've done a few dodgy recordings into my pc just using a microphone in front of the amp into the computer and Soundforge, with Fruityloops getting some drums goin. its really basic but helps when i want to get a song idea out and have the other guys listen to it rather than me trying to explain it and get them to play it to listen to it.
Its definately nothing you'd ever release properly but can be helpful for getting ideas out of your head so you don't lose them at least. and its a might cheaper option too (if you know where to get the software )

I usually listen to alternative, emo, alternative metal, metal, goth, electronic, guitar virtuoso.
I'm into both independent and mainstream. I am not a mainstream drone. I don't like music I pick just because others listen to it. I listen for what I really am into. It is best for music listeners to like what they automatically are into. |
