when i first signed up here a year ago, yeah i was guilty of repeatedly playing
some of our tracks, but then i got over it.
Its not about the charts, its about the feedback (and exposure i guess).
I still play our tracks if i'm at uni or over at my parents place, where i probably don't
have a cd on me and feel like listening to our stuff.

On a sidenote though, a lot of people i know in bands can't get enough of listening to
their own music. but i guess thats why they wrote it in the first place, to listen to it...

When I first joined UBW I must confess to playing our tracks but in my defence it was normally at someone elses house so the could check them out (saved me from having to carry CD's and Artwork around). I understand that being in the chart probably starts a snowball effect but I must say - I've been offline for a while (sofa surfing - no computer etc etc) and I was truly amazed when I logged on for the first time in a while a month ago and saw we were top of the Rock chart. It was a real thrill to know that a bunch of random unknown people were actually listening and enjoying the songs. Had I been blagging our own chart position myself then I would never had felt the warm glow, feeling of acceptance, accomplishment and accompanying ego boost. So my advice - if you want to feel good about yourself - Don't selfdownload! Wink (PS We are still unsigned and we still play shit gigs so the warm glow actually meant alot to us - Cheers UBW!) That is a great feeling. Like I said, once in a while I'll get an flurry of hits and climb the charts-- and that always raises my spirits as well. I always wonder "Who are these people?" Lol!

Another thing I don't get is how my songs have been played like 1,100 times and have been downloaded like 500 times. That's a 45% plays/download rate. On SoundClick, for example, those same two songs have a 3% plays/download rate. That's a huge difference. Anyone else have this kind of plays/DL ratio?

I think it is acceptable to play your songs when they first appear just to assure yourself that they play OK.

I aggree with other posters that the best way to get plays is to review other artists, providing HONEST, constructive feedback, & then ask for a review of your own stuff.

Thanx everyone for your honest feedback. I too feel it's ok to listen to your own stongs, especially to check them to make sure that they have uploaded properly, as well as just listeneing to them because you may be online and like listening to your own stuff. I also agree that the best way to get more listens is to listen to other people's songs and give them feedback and ask them to check out your stuff in return. In doing this you will recieve a most honest reading of how pwoplw feel about your music.
Thanx again for the feedback on this!!!!

I think that it is a real new expieriance for some of the new bewannas on the site that have no other outlet for their music. they need to get a grip on themselfs and realise that this is not a radio station but a music oriented give and take music show case. for inde artists to share thier music with other artists and hopefully some gig and advancment of carier oppertunities come along and make ya smile. Anyway I'm glad that we can do this on our own now. And we should teach others that don,t know any better the ways of things new to them" Or just hunt them down an.... Just kidding. It's a brotherhood not a sport.

I agree. Last week, I popped in and saw that my two songs were once again at the top of the charts. It really amused me, because I haven't played my music here in a long, long time. And those songs have been here for over a year.

This happens every six weeks or so. And I always wonder who's behind it: Is it the same people every time? Are they doing this at the expense of another artist? Who knows?

On the topic of advancing our music, I'm happy to report that one of my tunes is going to appear in Marcel Fayant's first feature-length indie film.

He started a thread in another forum asking for submissions, and I was congratulating the artists he picked. Well, Marcel decided to check out my music and felt one of my tunes would work for his film.

Even though this is just a hobby for me, I always embrace the idea of getting my modest songs in front of more people. And since a recording contract and radio play are well out of my reach, I've always known that the only chance I have of exposing more people to my music is by getting it placed in an indie film. I never dreamed I would fall ass-backward into such an opportunity.

If that's true, why exactly does your profile indicate that these were the last two songs you listened to?

Sorry for outing you two, but Bssgrl was asking for honest responses. At least she got one from me.

Thanx again for the feedback, I'm not intending to start any riff between people, I am just looking to find out what is the norm. In the beginning I was guilty of playing my songs alot, but now I just ask for trade feebacks and let things be as they may.
Thanx again for the feedback though, I appreciate it!
