Party in the park.

Nashville-based hillbilly AC/DC tribute band Hayseed Dixie, are to headline a major ‘party in the park’ music festival in Mesnes park, Newton le Willows, St. Helens.

Hayseed Dixie head for Newton straight from their success at Glastonbury. The Newton Music Festival offers three days of music & entertainment and presents fusion musical styles, with performers ranging from tribute bands including the George Formby Appreciation Society to 50's rock and roll from Friday 22nd July, Saturday 23rd July & Sunday 24th July. Local talent will also be showcased.

The entertainment mix will continue at the local Griffin Hotel, which will feature live music each night over the festival weekend. Councillor John Fletcher, Executive Member for Urban Regeneration said: "The Council is delighted to play our part in this exciting event which forms a key part of the growing tourism offered in the Borough. Such top quality music events such as the Newton Music Festival and the Eclectica World Music Festival (Sunday 14 August) will help us develop St.Helens as a great place to visit."

A spokesperson of the festival said: "This event gets bigger and better every year. We are pleased to have international festival veterans Hayseed Dixie taking centre stage. We want to develop the festival into a major attraction to draw more visitors from across Merseyside and the North West to the Borough”. “We also welcome and thank some of the best bands in the UK to our event which includes some of our own local up and coming talent, plus many varied forms of alternative entertainment including stilt walkers" “ We have onsite catering of varied tastes and origins, beer marquee and on Sunday, we totally encourage all our visitors to come in fancy dress, as will be the committee members, although for visitors it will be optional”

Wristbands for the festival are available from St.Helens Tourist Information Centre at The World of Glass. Chalon Way, St. Helens and The Griffin Hotel, Earlestown. Wristbands cost £2 - Friday, £4 - Saturday & £5 Fri & Sat. Sunday is free.

The festival committee would like to take the opportunity to thank all the bands and performers who applied to perform at the festival and wish you all the best for the future and look forward to seeing you again next year.
