The world of data processing and communication (press, broadcast, film, television, InterNet) is overcrowded with purposeful and planned representations of desirable or also deliberately frightful illusory worlds (advertisement, horror films, Science Fiction).

Spontaneously, naturally, genuine and unplanned expressed forms e.g. in music and art are devalued in the commercial world as incalculable and as having no guarantee of success.

Spontaneous musical improvisations in comparison with constructed and orchestrated music have special unmistakeable and estimable characteristics:

1. The individual's different musical ability becomes audible.

2. The emotional tendency of the musician is authentic reflected.

3. A continuous and coherent "tune painting" once created, causes natural attention from the listeners by reason of its unique character and impact.

4. Personal musical expression in an improvisation is unique and demonstrates the individual's characteristics, and the style of the musician shows appreciation for the listeners and their taste and character.

5. According to a listener's experience, the musical sympathy engendered by an original and genuine feeling presented by an improvised song, is more easily and more frequently possible than with a "patchwork of music".

The MUSICAL IMPROVISATION is in the world of music only ONE of several expressions of such art, but for musicians it deserves a much higher attention, because of the "personal note" it gives to the musician.

I've always felt guitar improvisation has always been held in high esteem - sometimes taken to such an extreme that it actually burns itself out. I've been waiting for about 15 years for the rock guitar solo to reappear after the blatant excesses of the 80s.... still waiting.

Philos....

I always love it when you drop by!!!! I hope your doing well! I really like your TVI, and can certainly agree with your points above. It takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there for such a non-standard style of singing, and you really do it well.

Take care!

ive played bass and keyboards in a couple of bands,my fav reason for jamming was the fun you had, like playing stand by me thrash style,no i wasnt in a thrash band Laughing

but yeah all the above reasons i totally agree on,it's a fact musicians bounce of each other the most successful artists are nearly always groups or duo's,or if the artists is a soloist there's alaways a writing partner or particular producer they work with(not always the case just in general)

Impro is good for many things but building confidence and finding your limits are the two most important, and doing it live would be a massive buzz.

Dear All,

I am very interested in the comment right at the top of his page by someone, or something calling themselves Philos 60, or some such name. I, myself, am a budding Vocal Instrumental Musician who can effectively imitate wind instruments (eg flutes, recorders.....) and also strings as well. Shocked My repertoire is presently largely limited to lively renaissance, and medieval music. I sing, and whistle too. I am wondering whether like souls exist in the UK. It would be interesting to meet them, and perhaps form a mouth music ensemble, or group. The sheer novelty value of it could be a viable proposition for someone in the know abouit these things.

I look forward to some interesting, and hopefully intelligent replies.

Regards,

Robert Searle
