Just like to share a review we had for Deluge.

THE KIKS - Deluge

THE KIKS could just as well have called themselves BB Dylan, or any other of my own personal favourite artists minus a letter. As it happens they chose to honour the Kinks and they’re quite within their rights to do so.

As I was listening to the three songs they’ve posted on UKBands, and before I’d visited their website, I was thinking The Kinks, Rolling Stones, Doors, and yes, even the Beatles. I liked what I heard so I had a look at their site and was delighted to see that they quoted all the same names as their influences.

The reason I’m bothering to mention this is that so many bands quote influences and when you go listen they’re a disappointment – they attempt to mimic their heroes but simply fail. The greats aren’t great for nothing.

THE KIKS mimic no-one. They happen to have similar qualities but mimic, no. They have the potential to be great for the same reason as BENEVA do (see last review)– SONGS. Bloody good songs!

The fact that the vocals (superb!) are a little like Dylan helps, as does the sympathetic backing/arrangement, but all that would have far less impact were it not for the fact that Deluge is a great song. Okay, it’s not a great recording but with content of this quality…who cares.

I don’t intend to say much more about it than that. You really have to hear it for yourself and as it lasts some six minutes (trust me – six minutes of bliss) you’ll have plenty of time to appreciate what I mean.

The band say they are unsure as to what genre they are. Don't worry about it fellas. What genre were the beatles? They were POP, remember? But if anybody asks just say you're song writers (at least until the world matures enough to understand that 'pop' has been hi-jacked by idiots).

THE KIKS are just starting out and are looking for a drummer and maybe a keyboard player. If you are either, and live within two continents ofSouthampton, audition like the wind or be prepared to kik yourself when this band get noticed and leave us mortals in their wake. Fantastic!!
