I'm not sure whyt the bitrates come off slightly different. I tell the mp3 conversion software to use average bitrate method so it can vary bitrates and add more detail where it needs it, borrowing precision for areas that don't need the higher bitrate. I guess it gets close to 128 like it tell it to, but not exactly... ??? thanks for the comments.

Listening to it now (damn rebuffering widget thingy...got braodband coming next week.....thank the lord!!) Initial impression - In tune, strong confident performance, (he starts his sentences like he means it-always a sign of a good singer!)
He's got some emotion in his voice but I get the feeling he could increase it and give his voice a bit more of a distinctive edge. With songs like this (nice tune by the way), I always need to feel the singer (more than hear him sometimes!)-It sells the song and makes people really listen to the lyrics.
Tracking the vocals has made it sound stronger but I think there's alot of space for some close harmonies.
In terms of the song the voice could maybe use a bit of tape compression to warm up the tone and give it a bit more atmosphere.
Overall though a strong voice that needs bit more thought in terms of the performance - hitting the notes is just the half of it on some tracks.
Hope that helps. Good work both of you. Keep on keepin on. |

Shane,
I think he's got a decent voice. I too think he's holding back just a tad. The tonation is good, just maybe a little more emotion...
I thought the song was fantastic!

Soulfish and Ron, thanks again for the comments. much appreciated. He'd never heard the song untiil the day we recorded so that's likely some of the tentativeness both of you hear in places.

I think is voice is alright is the lower pitches. It's kind of weak in the higher register. Overall, not bad. Better than some, not as strong as others. The recording sounds great.

Considering he didn't know the song very well I think he done a very good job on the vocals. It's always hard with a new song because your putting so much concentration into what words that are coming next that its hard to concentrate on the actual vocals which can give it an unnatural feel. |

I don't understand the intro - seems like a diferent song - doesn't fit iwth where you go from there. As far as the vocalist he is pretty solid. Got a smooth voice with good qualities - nothing awesome. I like the harmony section a lot though - play on that. They are tight and full. Not real fond of the open spot with the dododo part, once the guitar comes back in it's fine. It just is too bare when the dododo first comes in. OK, anyway, the vocalist does a nice job on the tune - pitch and timing is on and the voice has a nice quality. Thanks for the listen and best of luck in your musical futures. Michael

thanks for the comments Michael. I've been thinking of killing the intro. It's a variation on the same chords in the song that I thought was cool at one point years ago, but you're probably right - it doesn't really belong there. appreciate the comments re the vocalist.l
I've had a couple of your tunes on my "Lighter Side" radio stations for a while and mentioned them in a Weekly Favorites post from a few months back. Enjoy the ride is one I particularly like; excellent "loose" guitar work in Free and Flying. I think I've listened to everything you have on your artist page at one point or another, but the two above stood out to me. thanks again.
