hey everyone, the band The Blueprint just added their first song to the site (i helped 'em do it since they don't know anything about computers), and it got me thinkin: i haven't seen that many punk bands on here. is it just me, or is punk actually a minority here? if you listen to like Top 40 radio or somethin, punk is almost all you hear...any comments about this? and if you're a punk band, give a shout so I know there's more here! i'm reeaallly curious about this!! |

doesn't seem like there's a lot of punk here, but I've seen a bit. Not much top 40 either. I get the impression most unsigned artists don't do top 40. Maybe not much of an audience for it unless you're signed.

We do have a few punks around, lol, but they have been relatively quite in the forums. We are still a fairly young site, so we have lots of growth ahead of us!
You can view the current punk artists in the 'charts by genre' under punk and/or hardcore and/or emo.
Great to have you here!

I did go and check out punk artists under "charts by genre" but I had trouble finding the link for punk at first...I thought it would be under rock, but it wasn't, and I was really confused when i eventually found it under "alternative"...I'd always thought Linkin park and such were "alternative." to me, punk is the immature, whiney version of regular rock.
sorry if I offend anyone, and hopefully that doesn't start a debate about labeling and genres!! |

Guy I went to school with played bass for the UK Subs for a bit. Proper punk outfit complete with wood glued hair and bad acid trips on stage. It's hard enough getting them into a studio sober enough to play let alone online.
Just getting old I guess - Punk used to be an attitude, not a fuckin brand!!!!
(Make that old AND grumpy - at least since Green Day went....well, probably best not to talk about it....)

well put.
it used to be like.. "we're playin' a fkn song here and if ya don't like it, fk-off ! " ..lol
I guess when a music style changes with the times, the name should too. |

Punk is one of those real confusing terms these days... Cuz To me Blink 182 and Green day are top 40 Bands... If you're from the west coast, the Descendants and Suicidal Tendencies are Punk, if you're from the East Coast, say New York, than the Ramones are punk, but if you're from the DC area, Bad Religion, Minor Threat, Fugazi and the like are punk. These bands are, in my mind, particullary innovative and influential, hardly the immature, whiney version of regular rock, that's emo .
Now there's the whole blanket "Indie" statement, Indie Rock, Indie Pop, Indie Folk, is there such a thing as Indie Punk?
Me, I'm not a fan of any genre, I just listen to what I hear...
