Not sure if this is right spot to post, but every one should check out Black Ether

What a class act. "Silk" is beautiful and "Elan Vidal" is awesome. Am seriously hooked on 'Future Primitive'. A pity "Shamanic Verses" is hifi only. Move over Enigma!

Why are you unsigned.

why indeed. im sorry i didnt see this post till just a few minutes ago. ill answer in a minute, but first let me apologize for not being around here all that much. BE is a member of some 20 music sites and its been impossible to keep up with over 125 songs published on the web.

ok, now for the answer. the truth is that BE has been offered contracts over the past 3 yearson 2 different occasions. The first was a liscensing deal with Alula records which we actually entered into. We were to be the spotlight of a new imprint called Aeons. Unfortunately after signing 10 artists, Alula had this massive purge and one of the casualties was the director of the Aeons project and with it, the Aeons imprint itself. After a year or so, I came to realize that Alula would never honor the deal (we dont really fit into Alula's general label) and I asked them to rescind the contract and return all my masters, which they did. I then self-released the material as Renaissance of the Primordial. All the tracks you mentioned are part of that.

The second deal would have been with Neurodisc Records. this would have been an actual recording contract. Neurodisc is home to Amethystium and Ryan farish and there were some people who felt Black Ether would be a good fit there. But during the screening process two things became evident to me: 1) certain parties at Neurodisc were not interested in the progressive nature of the BE sound and wanted a more "mainstream" approach, and 2) we were going to lose all creative control of our material...which is totally unacceptable to me. So even though Neurodisc called us one of the most talented acts they have heard, it was clear to me that it was not a good fit. So although, Neurodisc has not closed the door on BE, we decided that we were better off on our own.

We've been approached by several other outfits in between and are still talking to one of Canada's biggest record companies, but we're finding that record comapnies are only interested in top 40 type stuff and that certainly isnt BE.

Our self-released stuff has done rather well so Im not about to just hand control over to anyone else who isnt willing to deal with us as artistic collaborators rather than give us the "we know whats best for you" attitude so prominant in the recording industry. We're not interesting in being MTV poster children. BE is about heart and the expression of the human spirit through music. Anything less would be a betrayal to what we set out to do and were hardly starving. So well keep doing it on our own until we find the right fit with the kind of distribution that makes it worth it.

Well I hope that answers your question ImL. I know youve been a big supporter of our work and thats so sincerely appreciated. Maybe one day we will find the right fit, but right now were content with the fact that we can touch the hearts of listeners across 5 continents. You dont need the record companies to do that....you just need a sincere approach to this thing we call music.

Peace and Oneness. Jay - Black Ether

I agree,,,you guys are very very excellent,
and i also agree that record companies are a pain in the A**
i was approached many years by a guy who was the ex-manager for a very prominent southern rock band...i wont mention the name due to you never what kind of conflict there may be,,,anyway, he wanted us to change our music, our looks and do whatever it was he said for us to do,,and ya know,,we passed,,,we could have been huge,,,but unhappy,,,,so, on that note it is very nice to see such talent as you, not jumping on the bandwagon and doing whatever they want, and to be completly satisfied with what your doing now, and as many of us here who post our music on these websites, get much more enjoyment out of touching someone with our music and be content with that,,,but i wish you luck in whatever you do!!
