thread looks pretty baron...i guess no one wants to come up off them secrets to success. I know a few people who are making a few $'s from selling at cdbaby.com but mostly the guys i talk to get alot of sales from interacting on the forums and making friends.

Maybe this is a sore subject for some bands!!

The reason I started the thread is I would like to incorporate sales through this site if bands are looking for that. I thought about paypal for making purchases straight to the artist. I'm trying to explore other options as well. Options that have worked in the past for bands in particular!!!

Thanks for the feedback Claes.

Would you be interested in selling songs, albums, or both?

Have you been on a site that uses paypal for artists to sell songs?

Im interested in selling songs and albums,
I will soon implement that on my site, but i saw that one of the artists here use a "wrapper", that allow consumers to listen 3 times before buying.
thats a good ide, but still paypal is so whide spread payment program so ill think i will stick to that.

Do you plan to make some banners for us here to put on our sites to boost the trafic here?

Best Regards
Claes

I've never sold any of my music before. I'm just like most of the others, really- just building up a following on the web, joining in forums, and making a few friends along the way.

I wouldn't mind selling some of my stuff on here. Are you talking about MP3 downloads, or complete CD's? Probably Paypal is the best for payments.

It sounds like paypal is the way to go.

They do take a cut out of your sale, but they are also the most popular by far and that's probably more important.

I'll need to check into it, but the cut isn't that large.

The electronic distribution is a must, I think, especially if there's going to be an option to buy individual songs.

I'll keep researching, please keep the feedback coming!

And Claes, I just finished some banners last night! When your ready to give me a link, just visit the "LINK TO US" link in the menu on the right hand side of the front page!

Thanks everyone!

Claes,

thanks so much for the link! It looks great!

Did you use the code I have on the banner site, or just use your own?

I've added a banner on the bottom right hand side of my site for bands that have links to the UBW on their websites. If you can send me a 150x150 pixel banner, I will get you into the rotation!

Take care!

I've never sold any music over the internet.. but I have sold a few cds locally at shows and such.. not much money, but hey. more than I had before I sold em...

a feature to sell songs/albums on UBW would be awesome. I'm all for it.

Hello!
I'm new here - looks like a brilliant place for music!

I'm not all that keen on Paypal because it requires users to register and (at least here in the UK) wait 10 days for a code that appears on their credit card statement, before they can actually buy anything.

I think credit card transactions are the way to go. Trouble is, it costs loads of money to set that up. I was thinking of a similar scheme in the UK, but the only way it would work would be to have loads of bands participating, and then taking a cut of each transaction to pay for it. You've got loads of bands here.... so it might be worth looking into!

Another company that I recommend is GEMM (gemm.com?) - they're a shop like Amazon,, but anyone can register. So you could have an Unsigned Bands Web shop there. They just take a cut (5-15%?) of the sale price, and the users don't have to register or anything like that,

Congratulations on the brilliant site, Ron. Will see you all here again sooon!

Tom

Excellent information. Thanks!! I've not heard of GEMM, so that's a company I will look into. I didn't realize paypal was such a hassle there. Here it is really easy and nearly everyone who ebay's, which is nearly everyone, already has an account. I guess that's one of those cultural differences!

Great to have you here at the Unsigned Band Web! I noticed you showed up as anonymous on your post. Make sure you sign up for an account and that way you can be contacted by PM or email when you post a message! All you have to do is register on the front page.

Take care!
