Remix

hey folks. FaceFitz did a sort of remix of my tune 020108 (demo) and came up with FaceFlipMix(9)0210-08. it's not a traditional sort of remix i guess. well, you'll just have to hear it.

thanks to FaceFlop for lending his time and talents.

for those of you that don't know, we both have the exact same software, started recording right about the same time - once we worked all the bugs out and spent a bunch more money than we thought we were going to, and we are twins separated at birth, except about 4.5 years apart on two separate continents. the story is going to be made into a special for cable TV. Oxygen channel, i think.

i hope you enjoy FaceFax's version. it's a riot!

listen your new track with a headphone and you will admit cutoff is set to high...a lot of producers do this because they don't work enought with headphones...it seems good on speakers but not on headphones (cuttof of bells leads) i often remasterise track because of i've made it only with speakers...or if you can afford and think you will be more pro try monitors , a bad track will sound less good on monitors than speakers, but a good one will sound better.

facefitz mixed it, and i haven't listened to it through headphones, so all blame should be directed towards him!!! Laughing

i'm assuming that there was some peaking he didn't notice and there's some overload with the new percussion. he likes to mix the drums loud. big loud drums! Laughing

sort of like the electronic version of The Flaming Lips. they always have a really big, out-front drum sound. he'll see this and make it work. he just got some new headphones for mixing.

the stuff i've done hasn't been hard enough to do that yet. Laughing

hahahaha you madhead....lmao.... ive not seen 'Oxygen' channel yet man, but its sure to be a top channel if its won the rights to that CLASSIC documentary!!!! (do we get any money for that buy the way??? i spent all my money on this lousy pc....lol)

seriously though, yea, the new headphones have arrived, i can hear clearly now the rain has gone...lol.. ill listen again and give it a tweak...

listened to it good stuff mix sounds ok to me on my monitors and headphones. Like PPB says its easy to get the gap between headphones and monitors wrong and the mix will sound bland on both but i would never mix just through headphones though. For starters headphones don't have a totally different stereo image than speakers and are also unacurate with reverb so i always check my mix's on every possible system, car stereo, ipod, good home system, shitty home system and anything with a mono speaker. Anyway point is that the idea of mixing an mastering is to get a recording to sound the same on as many different systems as possible not just your system as, unless you've got high class monitors and a acoustically treated "flat" room, it will most probably sound different on another system which you don't want. This not ment to discourage you from mixing at home and spending a wad of cash on top monitors, the trick is knowing where your speakers lie to you hint hint!

by the way i think the seperated at birth thing would make 4 some facintating can't-tear-my-eyes-away-from-the-screen TV drama but Oxygen is like Lifetime, they only use middle-aged soccer moms with marrital problems.
