Bill Farkas Bio: Rage Against the Machine on Valium..." is how one Music Director catagorized the controversial singer/songwriter Bill Farkas. Bill Farkas with No Parachute is the latest project for this ambitious singer, songwriter, guitarist, political columnist, radio personality, keynote speaker, activist, and successful entrepreneur from San Diego, California. Born in the Rust Belt of Cleveland, Ohio, Farkas began his professional music career at age 14 after studying guitar with the legendary jazz guitarist, John Stebal, from the age of 5. He shared Northern Ohio stages with other young artists in the 60s: Joe Walsh (Eagles), Benjamin Orr (Cars), and Chrissie Hynde (Pretenders). He continued his music career while majoring in political science at Hiram College and doing graduate work at Kent State University. Influenced by the political and social climate of the day, Farkas songwriting was influenced by the loss of his cousin in Vietnam and four of his classmates at the Kent State National Guard shootings on May 4, 1970. He took a hiatus from his music career in the mid-80s and built a computer company that led the technology revolution of the 90s. In 1999, Farkas felt the hole in his heart that leaving the music business left. He sold everything he owned, moved to California and returned to his passion: music. His re-entry effort, Self Help for a Sick Society, was three years in the making. Produced by platinum producer Dito Godwin (No Doubt, Kiss, Great White) Self-Help represents some of the most thought-provoking, powerful messages since the protest rock era of the 60s. White Collar Criminal and The World is Flat are currently moving up the Internet, college, and community radio charts as two of the most requested songs. Farkas emotional Morrision-esque delivery and "storyteller-style live shows an attractive draw for most any venue. In addition to touring with No Parachute, Bill finds time to write The Daily Rant, an interactive political blog at www.noparachute.net with now over 440,000 readers and growing. Among the causes he supports are the peace movement, the status of Native Americans in our society, voter registration drives, and homeless teenagers through his ADR Foundation. Farkas is active in ASCAP, Songsalive, LA Songnet, JPF, and hosts the longest running Performing Songwriter Showcase in San Diego at Claire de Lunes. This monthly event has hosted promising performing songwriters from across the USA, Canada, and Australia, as well as offering exposure and mentoring to many of Southern Californias upcoming songwriters and artists. |
