INTERVEIW WITH NEATO at www.wicketshit.com posted: 13 Jan 2005 12:54 AM
:::INTERVIEW WITH NEATO / JANUARY 2005::: WWW.WICKETSHIT.COM Warlocc: Whut up Neato, what happened since the "Evil Angelz Runnin Thru Hell" album? J-Neato: Since the Earth album I left the fallen angelz camp and started my own label Neadough Music. I recorded two albums and a few mixtapes, the first mixtape "It's Neato" is available now on itsneato.com and in record stores in the Detroit area. I heard you never saw money from Fallen Angelz, so what happened from your point of view? J-Neato: Those dudes were playin and I didn't have time for that, so I left. I was told you didn't show up on the video shoot for Earth. Tell us why and your side of the story? J-Neato: By that time i was done with earth, they tried to get me to come back with the video but I didn't have time, I was busy with my own label, making albums and doing shows. Arcane told me they never saw money from the distributor as well. Can you imagine talkin to Fallen Angelz again to make things clear or is the chapter just closed for you? J-Neato: That chapters definetly closed. You haven't talked to anyone since back then? J-Neato: I dont talk to any of those dudes anymore. Aight. Do you think the E.A.R.T.H. album got slept on? J-Neato: Was there an Earth album? I've never even seen one, that was a project they already had going and they found me and threw me on every track, I didn't even like the beats. I had to write dark verses just to go along with the theme, I was just doing that to get my name out there. Are you signed on a label right now? J-Neato: I'm putting my music out independently. Tell us about your mixtape "It's Neato". J-Neato: My new mixtape "It's Neato" is available now, go to itsneato.com to get one or to listen to some of the tracks. This mixtape features a few songs off of my upcoming album "Don't Shoot the Messenger" as well as songs that didnt make the album, and mixtape material. Production by "Craft" and Neadough Music in house producer "A-okay", no features. What the fans of Earth can expect from your new album? J-Neato: They can expect this to be their favorite CD until my next one comes out. Will you work with anybody you already worked with on EARTH so far? J-Neato: No. Is the style of your new album compareable to E.A.R.T.H.? J-Neato: No, the earth album is dark - my style is more radio friendly. What inspired you to start writing rhymes and when did you start to rap? J-Neato: After Iheard rappin Duke Duh Duh I started writing rhymes. Do you've got a wish list of MCs you'd like to collab with? J-Neato: I'm not really feeling any of these dudes out here, I might do a track with Nas. Do you think you might record with Esham or TNT? J-Neato: No. How do you feel about Dice? J-Neato: God bless him. D-12 claim to be pioneers of Detroit Rap? What can you tell us about that and Esham's status? J-Neato: Pioneer or not, Esham was the one makin noise in Detroit before Eminem. I respect Eminem, he brought credibility to the white MC. Who are your personal rap legends? J-Neato: My personal favorites are Beastie Boys, Run DMC and Rakim. Do you remember the first rap record you bought? J-Neato: Run DMC "King of Rock". How do you feel about those rappers hittin the charts nowadays? J-Neato: I can't believe these rappers are hitting the charts nowadays. Who's your favorite rappers in the game right now? What's in your deck? J-Neato: Neato is my favorite rapper and I got an A-okay beat tape in the deck. Why do you think rap out of Detroit sounds so different from any other city in the country? J-Neato: Must be something in the water. Can you tell us about growing up in Detroit? J-Neato: I grew up in Adrian, Michigan. It was a struggle, hard times came and went. What do you think of the political situation of the US right now? J-Neato: I voted for Kerry, so i guess we gotta sit thru 4 more years of Bush. What's the most important thing in your life? J-Neato: Family. Any last shout outs or words to your fans worldwide? J-Neato: I appreciate your support. Go to itsneato.com, get the new mixtape, support real hip-hop music. Peace.
