Held In Scorn Bio:
HELD IN SCORN was created out of the imagination of Ray (Former DARK HAIL/ADVENT guitar.) and Derrick (of SETRIP fame.) in the late Spring of 2003. The two hooked up on www.powerslave.com and both wanted something different yet melodic. With the same overbearing scene that limits the talent range in Stockton, Ca , the guys set out to produce something Stockton has not seen and that true fans of metal will digest.
The 1st line-up of Held In Scorn (before the name was ever brought to attention.) included former DEADEYEDSTARE guitarist Mike Butler, and former LYTHIC drummer Mike Chavez. Phillip (formerly of LYTHIC.) was introduced into the band from the beginning by Derrick. Mike Butler was the 1st to leave for distaste reasons. Chavez stuck around a little while longer after, but then decided to leave for the same reasons. This brought the band some new artillerary.
Matt Young (of the ANNE FRANK DIARIES, PARADOX, and now AWAKENED BY DREAMS.) stepped in and took over the guitar duties left vacant by Butler, and Hobart (formerly of SORE.) took the sticks and now resides on drums. Both are more than the band bargained for and have indefinetly lifted the band higher than expected.
As the year rolled on, faces began to change. Hobart was dismissed from the band for reasons unsaid. Ray left to pursue other interests. Held In Scorn decided to take a break. The remaining members decided to rekindle with newer and better opportunities.
In comes lead guitarist Jason (formerly of the popular Nor*Cal black metal band DISHARMONY), a shredder and a half. With Jason comes double kick ogre Tom (of GunMetal Gray fame). The band went back in to the studio with their new found line up and cut a 4 song ep of totally different material. But good things come to an end and Jason departed from the band and moved out of state. Matt left soon afterwards citing musical differances along with Phil.
The band shut down shortly after with Derrick spending a brief moment in Matt and Ray's new band Advent on vocals. Ray is currently putting together Held In Scorn's loooong awaited CD release with the help of some of the rest of the members. |
