Hello everyone,

My name is Marcus from the band "Hammer for the Masses". I have a new submission for you guys. I would love any feedback, good or bad. I really appriciated all the wonderful feedback in my first post. So thank you for taking the time!

This song is called "What do you Care?". My first submission was recorded on one track at our practice space. This one was recorded in my home studio.

I hope you like it!

welcome back!

at the beginning i had this trippy moment where it sounded like the Wallflowers at Pink Floyd push together, only to it then shift to the Hendrix version of 'All Along the Watchtower.' not in a pad way or anything, just at those moments there was a kind progression that had its similarities. the recording is good overall, to be sure.

i think the instruments sound good, and the performance is there. i think the bass is a little too up-up front continuously, when it could set back in the mix more during the verses the vocals seem to be a little too forward at the expense a killer drum track that makes me have to concentrate to hear the intricacies of the work on the rid and hi-hat. your mix doesn't sound unbalanced per se, it's just i think it could be balanced differently to both bring the drums a bit forward - give the track a little more energy at the times when it could use it; and not risk loosing the really strong vocals you've got going. i'm right there with you on having that vocal performance shine, since it's done well, but i think there's space enough to dial it back a little and open a little room. between make the bit of room with the bit of bass reduction during some parts and bringing down the vocal levels a touch, you could bring the drums in a bit, and also a little guitar perhaps, too.

whatever you do or don't do, the song is well done as it is. i don't really listen to this kind of music, so i have no strong basis for comparison, meaning that my comments are to simply be taken prima facie - my motive being strictly technical, of personal choice, and not influenced by some notion as to how what you do should actually sound. it's a good piece of work.

best of luck! Cool

your totally welcome!

since people come with songs from all kinds of genres, i decided long ago to stick to aspects concerning recording and mixing. bands can get feedback on likes and dislikes from anyone, and everywhere, so i try to focus on the one thing everyone here will have in common: recording and mixing a track. much of that is also subjective, but i think it creates a more useful exchange.

best of luck out there! Cool

Hi I listened to your song "what do you care"

Your vocals are strong and consistent and the blend of the main and background vocals blend well and complement each other, the track recording quality is good and all aspects of the track are clear sounding.
The instrumentation is simple and suits the track and allows your vocals to carry the song to it's advantage, you have a quality to your voice that reminds me of Sting/Rod Stewart.
your song is a pleasant listen and you and your band have musical talent both lyrically and musically with a great vocalist to top it off.
I enjoyed your song very much , good job. Very Happy
