Well we may as well have been in hiding for a while now, but here is a new track from our soon to be recorded EP,
recorded live at the Clarence Hotel, Sydney, Jan 19 2008.
The vocals start too low in the mix but are brought up pretty quickly.
The sound dude that night was a legend. You don't get enough good sound guys at gigs these days.
Seneki - In Hiding [HiFi]
Seneki - In Hiding [LoFi]
And in case you're interested - here's the VIDEO.
(I'm the one on the left who had a killer headache at the time - so no jumping around this time.)
Let me know if you life the new direction.

yea sounds cool man... i like the agressive start... nice guitar work in it, it holds a lot of atmoshphere and is a great live effort.... the vocal build up bit reminds me alot of a 'Tool' song i cant quite put my finger on at the moment....
yeah, overall i like it man... it breathes in and out nicely (builds then lowers) and your all obviously acomplished on your instruments!! nice compostition...
catch you later... |

the intro is a bit too noisy for an intro, the song is good but it seems the mid high freqz are mixed too high giving a hurt to the record, anyway this is good dark records |

Well it wasn't mixed at all. It's the sound recorded straight into a video camera in the crowd, but I definitely agree with you on the mix, and cheers for the feedback, PPB.
You too FaceFitz, thanks for the opinion. And yeah I'm trying to think of the same Tool song too, but it escapes me for the moment. Our singer is definitely influenced by Maynard's style of singing, so it wouldn't surprise me if he got the idea of the buildup to the chorus' from a Tool or Perfect Circle song or something.
It's funny how most of our music, if not all, seems to be very dark in nature, if not sound. Maybe all of us in the band have a lot of issues we need to work on
Thanks again for the feedback guys. |

from what i can tell, it sounds like a pretty cool track. as is the case when the quality is muddled, i have a hard time hearing the various individual instruments, which sometimes gives the false effect of sounding out of tune, or out of time in some spots. since th drummer looked like he was getting pretty busy at times, i doubt that's the case on the timing issue...and everyone can use a tuner. it sounds like there's a lot of potential there and i like the use of dynamics in the tune. the singers has a good voice, from what i can tell. i'll definitely check it out again once you have the recording finished. it's cool that you put up so many songs from that show. i watched a few of them. best of luck to you guys and i'll be on the lookout for the studio version. keep it up! |

hey man, it says on your description that you're from Sydney and i know your show was there, but on the world map you showed up near Mintabie (a bit to the north) off the A87 in South Australia. it actually puts you in the middle of nowhere. like you're using a satellite connection or something. that happened with another guy who used to be on the forum pretty often. it put him way off the coast of Nigeria as if he were on a boat. do they have cruises there you think? just curious how the map ended up placing you there and if there's a logical reason.
i also didn't mention this yesterday, but it's cool that you put video up of the band. here's an idea for you (in the off chance you haven't thought of it): in combination of getting the show on video, get a mix off the board using a mini disc or other portable digital recorder. i know some brands of mp3 players also function as a 2 track stereo recorder. not sure which ones, but i dj i met one time had once. it held 80 GB. i have an older mini disc recorder that works great. i can adjust the eq and and signal input level. once you get the wave files loaded on your PC, just sync it with the video...so long as you have the software. sorry to dedicate this many words about it if you've already given this thought. take it easy and good luck! |

Awesome idea. Way ahead of you though
We have many recordings on MD taken from the desk, but that requires all of the instruments to be mic'd up and leveled well.
At this gig, only the bass drum was mic'd, plus one drum overhead mic, and nothing else.
And of the recordings that we did get from the desk, the levels ended up being really bad, eg, if the guitar amps on stage are up really loud, then they will be really low in the p.a. mix. There's only so much an EQ can do if the guitars are almost non-existent on the recording.
This one, into the video camera, is probably one of the better live recordings we've ever gotten.
Cheers for the thoughts though, appreciate it.
If we do a proper live recording, we'll probably get an 8-track and mic up the room, stage and amps, as well as getting the lines from the desk.
Also, as for appearing in Mintabie - Where'd that come from?
I'm in Sydney... so that's just weird |

Well I went to my profile and fixed the Location to 'Sydney, Australia' rather than 'Sydney, AUS' like it was.
'Sydney, Australia' was an option already there, not one that I typed in, so maybe that'll fix it... Maybe not. 'Sydney, AUS' must be what I typed in ages ago before they installed the World Map section.
BTW - that world map thing is pretty awesome. |

yeah, it is. maybe that fixed it, but the way the world map works, we'd have to test it with someone else. i think it only records the computer once and that's it.
as far as your live recordings...i figured there was a good chance you guys did that, as it's pretty common. but you never know. we don't it in every situation either, since most clubs don't know how to mic acoustic guitars, and we don't go direct line, yet. the clubs that have a sound guy that does the mics and everything, usually mic us over the sound hole, which is a big indicator they haven't a clue.
good luck, then, and hope to see some high quality vids in the future. |

Months away. We are finishing 2 more tracks and once we are happy with them, and have had enough practice playing them, and not before, will we go into the studio.
We've made the mistake before of rushing to get things done, or not practicing the songs enough before going into the studio, and you can end up wasting time and money getting something you're not happy with.
Since this recording will be bigger than any previous one, we want it done properly, with minimal pain and frustration.
Having said all that though - we will try and get it done asap. |
