If you are a musician or an independent label, you
might want to consider signing up with Damon
Evans'101d.com, a broadband media network that can
promote, showcase and sell your creations. 101
Distribution could turn out to be your smartest career
move; while signing up with a major label could be
your worst. Here's proof from a leading music
magazine, 'Music Connection'.

Tony Kanal of 'No Doubt' believes that artists' deals
have to be re-structured so artists get a fairer deal.

Adam Duritz of 'Counting Cow' says that the way major
labels make their money is not fair at all. "They
waste an incredible amount of money, and then they rip
everyone else off (to make up for it)."

Tony Lovato of 'Mest' thinks that major labels just
don't know how to select good bands and waste a lot of
money trying to promote 'horseshit bands'.

According to Jon Fishman of Phish and Pork Tornado,
record companies only look out for their own
interests, not the artist's. And if these artists
don't "look after" them, they will simply get rid of
them.

Jamie Masefield of Jazz Mandolin Project is vehement.
He says he wants to own his music and knows how to
promote his own CD, and does not need a record label
to show him how.

Skinny DeVille (Nappy Roots) would like to see more
money going to the artists. He says that these major
labels are after all, not making the music and ought
to live for a while on pennies like artists do; only
then might they understand the plight of musicians.

Brad X of Kottonmouth Kings feels that the guys at the
record companies should work on commission - get paid
only when they perform. "Blaming it on the Internet
and downloads is ridiculous. The movie business still
made money after the VCR was created."

Says Rachel Sage, a solo artist believes that there's
hope in the music industry for everyone if artists can
own, retain or buy back their masters more easily.
This way they will be less likely to "pander to
existing trends or become defeated by the way the
"system" devalues strength of personal vision."

Chris Conely of 'Saves The Day' says that paying $20
for a CD is ridiculous. Record labels should just
disappear and bands should take over, offering their
music online at $3 per album. This way the bands would
make plenty of cash and not have to bother with the
bureaucracy and all the nonsense that comes with major
labels.

Solo artist Michael Bolton says that in this digital
era, people "want what they want now" and this has
become a giant nightmare for the music industry.

The smart thing for a musician today would be to take
advantage of this digital era. At 101d.com, musicians
and independent labels can promote and sell their
music, video as well as their merchandise. They can
enjoy the highest per unit payout at 101, and the
support of some of the finest digital media
professionals, track their sales online, and even
network with other bands and keep in touch with their
fans. Most importantly with 101d, they can be in
complete control of their music, licensing and
copyright.

yeah dude, you're totally wrong! it's always been my dream to be one of those independent guys that starves his way through his 20's and 30's in obscurity, and then be celebrated a few years before i die. keeps it fresh, ya know what i mean. i also don't work in a sewer, so at least sanitation employees make more than an office hack at a non-profit! if i can deal with mind numbing, Kafkaesque bureaucracy to reach my goals and keep it real, you can suck crap out of a sewer for $25/hr (not sure what the going rate for sewage management is). speak for yourself, but if you haven't lost your family, your career, a home or a vehicle or both, been an addict of some sort, been evicted from that one-bedroom apartment you rented after losing your home, hocked all of your equipment only to gain only 1/3 of it back, and haven't sold yourself on the street for a hot meal and a bath, you probably are signed to a crap label. real artists suffer!

Thats Funny man....
I do work in the sewers.......Chemical Grouting in the joints of big pipe....but my main Job is Safety Director....so dont do much down in big pipe anymore....But i get down in there sometimes.....but not like i used to.
ya know........I wonder how long it would take selling one of my songs at $.99 to match what your first upfront money is when you sign with a major label.........lol
I would be dead and gone before that happens...lmaooo
Let me do some math........
$.99 for the track x 10 sales a week $9.99 a week
x 52 = $519.48 average
Lets see......upfront money from a major label is roughly $300,00.00 Shocked and 16 points (points are the percentage of the retail selling price after you pay back the $300,000.00)
$519.48 x 577 years = $300,000.00

so yeah....i think ill go with the 577 years..

I WANT A RECORD DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND YOU GO-RGA-TR-ON!!!!!!!.... ..I DO NOT SUCK ANYTHING.... ESPECIALLY SEWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....hahahahahahahaahhaaa

Just kiddin man.......kidding about the yelling...but not kidding about the not sucking anything...

Or maybe im wrong about the whole record deal thing!!!
and if i am......then i will admit it!!

ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

all right then. the only way to find out is to get you a record deal. we need to get some of your material together and we'll start submitting it to every record deal contest there is around the WORLD! have you ever thought of being big in Tadzhikstan? or what about big metal markets like Albania, Macedonia, or Bulgaria? Georgia has a great underground scene at the moment. do you read squiggly? i do. i'll help you get started and we'll put this thing to rest. Razz

HA HA HA... you guys... i wouldnt want to be signed to a major label, mainly because im totally unmarketable, totally unmanageable and unable to keep a group together for anything over 9 weeks at a time!!!

seriously though i do have an inherent hatred of the whole music business structure and would never debt myself up like that to try and sell music... its bad enough you have to 'debt up' to get a house, nevermind the insane thought of adding whats basically 'a second mortgage' to 'further' your musical career!! and if im totally honest, i think in this day and age its simply not needed to sell your music etc... Cool

Executioner death to corporate dictatorship!!!! Laughing

see man, here's where i disagree. the debt thing is what gets me. i'd love to be told what to play and how to play it. that's what we do in Sylvan Lane, in case you couldn't tell. we call him 'coach.' he's the former guitar tech for 'Huey Lewis and the News." as one can imagine, they're a big influence on our music. i think you here it best in our song 'Falling.' it's basically a remake of 'Want a New Drug,' but played a lot slower, in a different key, and new notes. 'Coach' says that it's the way they originally played it. 'Falling' used to have a sax solo right smack dab in the middle, but we took it out. love those random sax solos! Laughing

i think everyone else that used to post here got signed. Laughing
