First song I recorded.
I play the guitar.
All I'm asking is for 1 minute of your time to listen to the entire song.
Rock/Rap/Experimental.
please just give it a listen
and tell me what you think.

You don't like it eh?
Thanks anyway...
It's my first recorded song, the next one will be even better.
Think what you want but I'll make it big one day. |

you really weren't kidding about it just taking a minute, were you?
a few remarks:
first one (and a minor one) drop the 'experimental' from your tags. it's not experimental except for the fact that you're experimenting. mixing pop/rock with rap hasn't been experimental since i was in jr. high and i'm now 30.
there seems to be some discrepancy between the recording quality of your audio and vocal tracks. the vocal track has a lot of extra noise, which is probably stemming from your recording setup. sometimes it's an easy thing to remedy and sometimes not. kind of depends what gear you're already using and if it's good enough to produce a good sound and whether you just need to upgrade. for some tips on mixing and mastering, check out this forum here at UBW. there are also reference to other websites and forums that might be useful. i know it's only your first attempt at recording, so i'm not knocking it, just trying to point out some things you need to work on.
you can beef up your vocals (and it seems like what you're trying to do will rely heavily on them) by doubling or tripling vocal tracks. basically, recording one vocal track, then dub another vocal track over that one. that's how a lot of hip-hop artists get that rich, thick vocal sound.
your cadence wasn't all over the place, but it could definitely be tighter. you could also do with a little variety in it. right now it comes across as pretty basic and not at all unique. these are things that you'll just have to practice, though, until you find your own way of doing things. it'll sort itself out over time.
this next bit is off the subject, but if you want to have more success when asking for reviews, you should create a profile here at UBW and promote yourself in the 'song reviews' forum. you'll get more respect and more honest feedback if you also review other people's material. nobody is really all that interested in spending time on someone who is just going to stop by the site to promote music on another site and not return the favor. there's some 'give & take' involved. on myspace, it's common to just drop by the forum and just say 'hey, listen to me' because the forum there sucks and is a complete waste of time and effort. this is more of a community. we kind of frown on that mentality here. just FYI. but you posted in the right forum, so nobody will get pissed about that. |

Thanks guys.
I really aprichiate giving me tips and everything, I don't want you guys to think im some asshole.
The mic im using cost about $100 its this USB studio type mic.
I'll show the site when I get a chance.
Whats the best way for getting rid of background noise when recording?
I dont mean digitially removing it manually.
My friend tells me going between 2 thick matresses, or staple cupholders on the walls.
I promise I'll work harder on the next song.
When you say "thick vocal sound"
Do you mean when they rap the song, then rap again over the same track to make it sound like doubled?
I wish I could sing better man xD
I don't have to voice to sing though.
I always wanted to sing in a red. hot chili peppers style.
but not heavily based on it. |

i don't think you're 'some asshole.' just letting you know what i though of the recording and since it was your first attempt at recording, i figured that you may want some technical feedback. everyone starts somewhere. my first recordings were on an old, early 80's GE portable AM/FM Cassette recorder/player. i used to hang the mic over the light fixture in my small bedroom and we'd record a three-piece band. sounded good at the time.
as for noise, it's probably room noise. you just want to do what you can to deaden the noise as much as possible. hang blankets, make sure that you have stuff on or against the walls. even bookcases and stuff like that helps. a completely bare room with Sheetrock walls is your worst enemy. you can look up all kinds of recording tips online and it'd be better than any help i could give you. i still recommend the forum i gave you the link for. you can always ask questions there, too. you might want to search through the forums here. i'm sure somebody has asked these questions on here at some point.
as for dropping the word 'experimental' from your description, it's just my opinion. i think the term is overused nowadays and people that aren't really all that experimental are using it. when i think of experimental, i think if something like i haven't heard before. maybe not radically different, just in a way that really hasn't been done.
no worries, man. |
