So..... I notice any band who's anyone is on myspace and plugs it like mad, but think Bebo is "Kiddie and crap"

Now.... Here's the thing, I have a page on both Bebo and Myspace and I have to say, after setting up the bebo page, I can safely say Bebo is MUCH better, and My Space is headwrecking and crap!!!!

Reasons are....

Bebo looks better
Easier to navigate
U can sell ur music on Bebo too, and put up videos etc
It's easier to promote your music on bebo
It's easier to add friends
U don't need to understand HTML!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And U can comment on peoples profiles whether you're friends or not!!!
The Bebo Url is much better for promoting your band

http:/lamph.bebo.com

As opposed to

www.myspace.com/lamphmusic

So.... can anyone tell me... Why is my space the "credible" site to have your music on... When Bebo appears to be much better!!!!

... not that I'm into promoting my music much ... but ... I think for me ... the most pertinent point about myspotz ( and without wanting to get Political about it) ... is that its owned by spawn of the devil ... Murdoch Empire ... .... and I would'nt touch it with a sh1t covered stick ......

I'm not sure if anyone has ever got signed from either site ... but I would guess that serious producers would give places like your very own UBW a visit first ... before they ventured into any of the others????

btw .... welcome back ... I thought the name was familiar ... Smile

Hi Sevven!! Thanks for the welcome back... I feel special Razz
How did U do that shit covered stick?? It's very funny!

I was only reading a comment from U last night about the creed... Which I never thanked U for.... I know it was over a year ago, but thanks anyway.

I'm really bad at being on forums, as U may have noticed, but I'm gonna try and visit here everyday from now on!!!!

Especially since, by some strange twist of fate.... Our downloads went up phenominally in 1 week... Smething like 400 in the week, so that's made me sit up and pay attention!!

You're very welcome Clyhh .... I remember very well 'The Creed' ... one of those tracks that sticks in the mind.
I'm afraid the shit covered stick came courtesy of the UBW "view more emot-icons" & a bit of imagination....

The message boards here might be a bit slow at times ... but the site is a quality site and gets a lot of hits. .. ( not entirely appropriate .. but they're cute little things )

The radio stations, I think get linked in somewhere else. Ron has supplied ready made links in BB code & Html ready for cutting and pasting into other sites and the refferal log on your artist page is a good way to see where your own page hits are coming from.

I am no expert on the working of the site ... maybe someone else can correct me?? and advise you on the best way to promote yourself here ..??

I'm glad that Lamph are still out there & going strong ... long may it continue ...

Cool... I didn't kow U could monitor hits!!! Yeah, I like this site, I've always liked it, when we were looking for sites to put our band on, this was the favouritecos U can do so much... I just wish I understood HTML better!!!!

Noone (apart from U) seems to be giving their thoughts on why my space is that good!!!!!

Or giving any thoughts on why bebo is so dismissed!

I'm not meant to be online still!!!! I have to get ready for "Work" Djing.... Wouldn't really consider it work... But it pays the bills!!

As I said earlier - I'm not into promoting my stuff - its just a hobby now - but there seems to be loads of stuff here for helping you to promote - hopefully others will pick up on this thread ... and help you on your way

I get a headache when I go to MySpace. There's just way too much info. on that site when all I want to check out is the music-related stuff.

So, in response, I created a website called infusician.com where you can do anything around music collaboration and promotion - create mashups, jam live online, and make soundtracks to short video clips. The interface is really clean and easy to navigate and I'm hoping people will respond well to it.

Check it out when you get the chance. (And, yeah, I still use MySpace - so I can convince musicians to go to infusician.com!) Wink

Promotion is one thing ... BSP of your website all over the boards is something totally different. Why could'nt you just post it in the proper place? and contribute your usefull views without the BSP .... where's my stick ....

LOL..

Thanks for the comments guys.

We are constantly looking for more ways to help you promote your tunes. In addition to the ways mentioned above, I am currently lookin into 'open social' which would allow easy promotion of your tunes to all of the sites I never visit (myspace, facebook, blah, blah, blah). We do have a myspace profile generator for your fans, so they can use your songs, and images on thier myspace page easily. You need to follow the instructions from the post in your login.

I think those sites are cool for finding fans, but I'm not sure how many 'professionals' use those sites to seriously find music. There's just too many kids and too much clutter to make it an effective search tool (imho). Nonetheless, they do get traffic, so we will continue to provide new vehicles for you to promote yourself there.

I too have a bebo and a myspace so I'm just gunna say this

Quote:
Bebo looks better

To me, bebo looks kinda boring in terms of profile layouts and colors and stuff. myspace has more layouts that look better to me.

Quote:
Easier to navigate

I really don't see how myspace is hard to navagate. The only navagation problems I can say is when people add layouts and the images in the message/block/add friend part don't match the picture.

Quote:

you can do that on myspace also.

Quote:

Bebo has way less people that myspace so even if it was easier to promote your music, you'd still reach a smaller audience.

Quote:
It's easier to add friends

How?

Quote:
U don't need to understand HTML!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How hard is it to copy and paste? I mean I understand HTML but pretty much all sites do the hard work for you. you just copy and paste the code.

Quote:
And U can comment on peoples profiles whether you're friends or not!!!

And that's not always a good thing. I prefer only friends to add comments on my page, instead of leaving it open to everyone and potentially having unwanted messages or even SPAM!

they're basically the same. the website.com,/thebandsname

http://www.bebo.com/kottonmouthkings
http://www.myspace.com/kottonmouthkings

Not facebook's links are a weebit complicated unless you get the web url app in which ur link would be http://profile.to/whateveryouputhere

Here's my link BTW: http://www.bebo.com/AutumnSodomy

since this point hasn't been touched yet.....the market decided which site is the 'credible' one and which one isn't. myspaz has the financial backing and bebo doesn't, or at least not to the same extent myspaz does. wasn't myspaz originally for music before it devolved into the monster social networking site it is today? regardless, they have the money for advertisement, so like good little sheep, people flocked to it. by default it's the main point of convergence. Crying or Very sad

i guess i should mention that we flocked to it, too. Laughing

Hmmmmm..... Yes.... My bitching rant has been quite torn apart hasn't it!!!

Not much I can say to that really because I've been working on my my space page a lot over the past week, and found that the reason adding friends was awkward is because, the friend I was trying to add has the font of that section the same colour as their background!!! And I didn't know that section existed. I thought U had to e-mail people to add as friends..... Also, after doing 2 hrs of band promotion on both bebo and my space today, the my space promotion was MUCH more effective (even tho the my space forums are quite shit!!!)

My page is still boring, but I've been told by 2 people today that html is a piece of p**s.....

So, I'll just go and wipe the egg off my face and think about why I should make damn sure I know all my facts before I slate something Rolling Eyes
