Contrary to belief, counting numbers, as we have caught ourselves doing in this thread, are a way of our continued obsession with stupidity, although we all admit this thread isnt very intelligent, I still find myself opening this thread just out of pure morbid curiosity, kind of like driving past an accident and needing to look at the carnage that lay on the roadside, so in parting i leave you with this......

yeah. and all quite daft as well. you're madder than a lorry! now for a real contribution...i believe if we count Face's entry, it will make it eleventy-six.

someone post the proper number if i'm off. there's a lot of nuance and judgment once you get into the eleventy's. Confused some of you math guys can debate about that.

hello! Very Happy

More Philosiphy.........I have a DEEEEPLY heady question.....WHY in the name of all that is good and holy did 11 and 12 get left out of the "teen" group...i mean, why didnt they get to be called ONE TEEN, and TWO TEEN,,,sure it sounds funny, but only 'cause youre not used to hearing it.... so back to the question, since 1 and 2 didnt get to be part of the overwhealmingly hip "teen" club, and for no apparent reason, then does that count as number discrimination???? I have no punchline for this, so i leave you with...........Ochre....(thats 23, which hurts me deeply to say, as it is the number which my gerbil, Mr. Nutso, has nightmares about, causing him to convulse VIOLENTLY in fits of "sleep induced rage"

I have sent $Ochre to the fund - I hope it helps.

I think the next number is .... MrNutso .. which would be the next number in the Fibbonaci sequence (Golden Rule etc... )

So ...

MrNutso

this is a question i've pondered myself. in the 5 languages i can count in, the same phenomenon occurs. i guess that you've got to ease into the teens, just as is the case with adolescents. 11, 12 - preteens. not quite ready to be a teen but too old for coloring books. they've got to ease into it. the counting reflects the transition that humans go through at that age. i truly doubt that this is the case for it, but it kind of correlates. good luck on finding the answer. let me know if you do. Very Happy

i have been serching for answers to the mystery of 11 and 12, the search has been futile!!!

i did find these links to music though on wikapedia...

11
In music

* The interval of an octave and a fourth is an eleventh. A complete eleventh chord has almost every note of a diatonic scale.
* The number of thumb keys on a bassoon, not counting the whisper key. (A few bassoons have a twelfth thumb key.)
* The band Primus has a song "Eleven" on their Album Sailing the Seas of Cheese.
* The band Tool has a song "jimmy" on their Album Ænima which includes many instances of the number eleven.
* Spinal Tap's amplifiers go up to eleven, every other bands' just go to ten, but it doesn't actually amplify the sound any greater.
* Maria Taylor's Debut solo album is entitled 11:11
* The All-American Rejects have a song on the CD Move Along that is called 11:11
* Andrew Bird has a song called 11:11

and 12...

* Twelve Girls Band
* Twelve is the number of pitch classes in an octave, not counting the duplicated (octave) pitch. Also, the total number of major keys, (not counting enharmonic equivalents) and the total number of minor keys (also not counting equivalents). This applies only to twelve tone equal temperament, the most common tuning used today in western influenced music.
* The twelfth is the interval of an octave and a fifth. Instruments such as the clarinet which behave as a stopped cylindrical pipe overblow at the twelfth.
* The twelve-tone technique (also dodecaphony) is a method of musical composition devised by Arnold Schoenberg. Music using the technique is called twelve-tone music.
* Twelfth Night is a progressive rock band
* 12 Play is an R. Kelly album.
* The Number 12 Looks Like You is a mathcore band.
* 12 is a studio album by German singer Herbert Grönemeyer.
* Twelve Deadly Cyns...and Then Some is an album by Cyndi Lauper.
* D12 a rap group also known as the Dirty Dozen.
