First of all just like to say a big hello to everyone on the site...

2nd, i wonder if anyone can help me, im having trouble getting the sound of my distortion to not sound too distant if you get my meaning, i use a marshall avt 150h half stack, and a epiphone les paul, i will be getting a new guitar soon, mainly because of the above problem, but i wondered if it really is all down to the guitar...

i have tried many eq settings and messed around with the pressence dial etc but cant seem to get a nice crisp distortion sound on either overdrive channel, the clean channels work like a charm and to be honest i can afford to be in the market for another amp,

so, im kinda thinking about getting a seperate distortion pedal?? and im definatly getting a new guitar, does anyone know of a good setup?guitar to use with my amp,?? im looking at spending around £600 on the guitar

any help would be much appreiciated

Hey....hows it goin??
Here is the answer to all your distortion/effects problems......
http://line6.com/floorpodplus/sounds.html
i dont own it yet.....but played with one at the guitar center.....both through a Marshall and a Crate.....this thing is unbelievable...no im not a sales rep for line 6...lol
but if its distortion you want...its distortion you get....and a whole bunch of other things.....i would suggest trying it out first...before you buy...
of course this is true with all musicial equipment.....
as far as the distant distortion...i had the same problem with my Crate half stack.....but after foolin around with different bass and treble settings i got it close......but you got one hell of an amp there bud.....i wouldnt get rid of that one.............
hope some of this helps...

Hmmm... just checked out the EMG web site, that all looks a bit over my head at the moment, the guitar im looking at has 2 humbuckers, but after reading that im thinking maybe i need a single coil for the tone i want from my lead playing...

i'll have to check out what the prs and other guitars sound like on fri and see what i think, though i have noticed EMG do a single coil pick up in humbucker housing so there may be a way around all this.... I presume you can buy 2 seperate humbuckers from 2 different manufacturers and still use them in one guitar??

If that is the case i think that could be the way forward as i would like quite a unique sounding guitar with a bit of 'character' in the sound...

All i'll have to do then is learn to play the thing well... Wink

looks like a sweet guitar. if i'm not mistaken, and i could very well be, one of the guitarists for the Canadian band Do Make Say Think plays a very similar model. i saw them on monday in KC, MO and i was having a hard time placing it, but having looked at this page makes me think he was playing a PRS. i'm not sure which amp he uses or anything. one thing's for sure, though, that guitar has a really rich tone and great sustain. i'm not sure if that kind of music is your thing, but you should check them out sometime. you'll love his sound. it stands out. i used to play a hollow-body myself when i still owned and electric. i loved it! i love that rich tone. can't wait to hear you record with it! you should probably wait to party again until after you get yourself sorted out with the new rig. Laughing

i'm doing the same until i get my new PC. then my primitive might work a bit better, considering that my current PC is even more primitive. well, i'm starting to get off-topic and need to get to work. be strong FaceFitz!

As far as the canadian bands that i've heard go mate, i kinda gotta 'lean' towards Godspeed you black emperor! and all the 'mount zion' 'explosions in the sky' branch offs, saw silver mount zion twice right here in nottingham!!! nice, nice music man...

if im not mistaken i have some DMST (are they a Godspped 'branch off' too?? ) stuff lying around seem to remember checking them out once before, but kinda in between one of them 'im going on a mad check out loads of bands' scenes, deffinately give them another listen though... a similar thing just happened with a band called Tortoise that i kinda passed by, then mark (bass player) was like 'i've been getting into Tortoise a bit lately', so you listen again and all of a sudden you wonder what the hell you missed the first time round!! Smile always find that some of the best bands out there take two listens...

you have fun at work mate!! Rolling Eyes 'cus its always fun at work.... lol

p.s what you reckon on the anagrams??!!... (see below) is that guy a genius or what??... lol

DMST isn't exactly a Godspeed branch-off, but some of their members are also in Godspeed, i think. when i saw them Monday, they had the lady that plays violin w/ Godspeed with them. they are a little more in the psychedelic than Godspeed ever thought about being. they also don't do absurdly long orchestrated pieces. i really enjoy Godspeed and they were the first band off that label that i got into, but at this point i like DMST and Fly Pan Am much more. i'm a huge Tortoise fan (different label, different country) an that's probably why i dig the other bands a little more. i've got a lot of Silver Mt. Zion stuff, but only like it when they're not singing. Laughing

Expolosions remind me of what Mogwai used to sound like back when. they aren't quite as heavy as Mogwai once was, though. i'll send you a pm later on mate. i'll give you my email address. we can swap some music. we've probably got a lot in common. easy!
