Basic song, just me and my guitar (maybe a banjo or harmonica part, too). Question: are the O' names too repetitive? They fit and seem to flow well, but I could see why people might not like them.
Young Molly O'Connell was barely 16
When to Johnny O'Shea she was wed
They built a small house on the edge of the town
With a stove and a roof and a bed
And at every morning he'd wake up at dawn
And walk seven miles down the road
Molly would stay home and raise their young son
And patch up Johnny's old work clothes
But one day Johnny didn't come walking back
Though she stayed up all night 'til sunrise
Her son held her hand as the priest said a prayer
And the wind pushed the veil o'er her eyes
When the empty casket was put in the ground
The widow withdrew to her home
She married a doctor who worked all the day
And she wandered the forests alone
One day a pale stranger staggered into town
And asked with a rough wrinkled brow
"Oh what has become of Molly O'Shea?"
"She's Molly O'Callahan now"
He came to their house at the edge of the town
And knocked on the old wooden door
She opened it slowly and stared at his form
And fell into his arms once more
It's been many years now that Johnny's been dead
And Molly O'Callahan gone
But sometimes they're seen, pale hand held in hand
Walking the forests alone
