It's really good for sit down recording, and effects processing. If your planning on using it for live sound it will work, the only problem is the the banking features are slow, and you have a one second gap in sound during a change from one effect to another.

It's always a cheap alternative to having many effects boxes, but then again I wouldn't use one for live sound.

Good luck to you

How much money are you willing to spend???
Here are some suggestions:

http://www.line6.com/podxt/tone.html

http://www.line6.com/floorpodplus/

http://www.behringer.com/v-amp2/

I personally use the Behringer V-Amp2, I have used it live, however, there is a slight delay between switching effects, so, you have to think ahead before changing effects during a song, but the sounds that come out of that thing are incredible,
The Line 6 floor pod was a fun little gadget, i went to our local GuitarCenter (Plug)
and tried it out....it sounded really good for live performance...so i am more than likely trading up to that soon,

all these can be used with your recording software on your pc,
Hope this helps, if ya need inexpensive gear, then Ebay (another plug) would be your best bet.

Oh one other thing,,,,if you are looking into just strictly recording on the PC, then I highly recommend the Line 6 GuitarPort (yet another plug)..lol
Its what i also use, and its great..

No i do not work for Line 6 Smile

I used to have the Zoom GFX -707 (mark 1) a few years ago (i think the only main diffence is an expression pedal) personally i had some fun with it and got some quite interesting sonds from it with some messing around, overall it was easy to use and good for recording, but it was totally impractical for live performances, mainly because of the set-up of the banks,

I can't remember the exact set up but basically you had say 6 banks with 5 sounds per bank which you could scroll left and right through which obviously causes problems when you want to jump from say bank 1 sound 3 to bank 4 sound 5...

you can however change the order of the sounds, if you know in your song you go from say a reverb effect to a distortion effect to a chorus effect then you could line them up so, but for me this was way too impractical... Usually a good price though if the moneys tight...

heres a couple of links to the 707...

and the 505...
