I try to keep up to date with sites that perform similar services to the unsigned band web, and I just found out that Mixposure has been taken down by hackers. That sucks!!! I've read in a couple of forum posts that the owner is trying to get things back up and running again, but it's taking him awhile due to the lack of support from his server company.

Going through our logs regularly, I see TONS of attempts to try and backdoor into the unsigned band web (presumeably to hijack our site). I don't get it... Why try to take down an independant music site that's just trying to help independant artists get noticed.

My best wishes go out to the Mixposure team and all the artists that have music uploaded there. Hopefully all will be resolved soon.

Ron

Maybe they are hired through the record companies...because, after all, since the whole internet music thing..they are suffering losses in the profit department!!
Just a theory though...

Mix has been down for some time. And it doesn't look like it'll be back soon.

Kyle posted that he discovered a group of hackers in Turkey who make sport of taking down websites. The disabling of Mixposure was #3 on their chart.

This is such a pity. I'm on a half dozen sites and UBW and Mix were the places where my music was most appreciated-- by a huge margin.

I got in on the ground floor of Mix, and continued to get plenty of plays long after uploading my handful of songs.

But the main thing was all the great reviews I received. A couple former and future IOMA Artists of the Year were especially kind.
And the one negative review I got still managed to squeeze in some cool praise ( "a heavier, punkier version of Dire Straits." Wow!).

I'm glad I saved a lot of those comments.

I never paid Kyle any money, but I secured a lifetime MixPro account by doing a ton of reviews the first month.

I hope I can do that again.

It's actually a PHP Nuke thing. There are a lot of unsecure PHP Nuke sites out there and they WILL get hacked, no matter what the content of the site it. The script kiddies don't care, they think it's fun and a challenge.

My suggestion is to keep a close eye on the development of PHP Nuke and the second there is an upgrade or a fix for an exploit, get it taken care of immediately.

It's just a shame all that knowledge goes to waste on things like this. These kids could more than likley be making lots of money on development projects and security exposure and instead their taking down stuff that we love just to get a kick out of life. It sucks but it's true.

I guess the best thing we can do is to keep our files backed up and just export our databases every week or so. It will always be this way, and nothing is gonna change the world.

Keep kickin' fellas we'll pull through.
