k well my problem is, i can sing, but sometimes i cant. like i can sing with music behind me, and i can immitate other singers voices, but when it comes to my own songs its sometimes really hard to sing. any tips?
and i write the lyrics in the band but sometimes its hard for me to remember them, any tips for remembering them?\
and one more (lol im sorry.) i play bass in the band, and when i go to sing, it gets alittle hard, this is why i usually either do lead vocals in a band or just bass, is theyre any way to do both at the same time, but a way to make it simpler?
thanks for all your help!

Well,,,,,,lets get to the first problem-----
what key are you comfortable in??
you may be writing tunes outside the key that the other artists are using...for instance--
if you were to sing Nickleback, the majority of their songs are drop D, you might be able to hit this note without difficulty---but, you are writing songs in, lets say, in the key of "G".......this might not be the vocal range that you have.....try a different key until you are comfortable singing in that range...
Second problem--
Remebering Lyrics...well,,,,,two things.....you say you write the lyrics for the songs...how many times do you write them down??
what im getting at is.....if you write them down several times while the music is playing, chances are that you will remember more times than not...also.....record the lyrics, and listen to them, listen to it again...and then again...and again...and so on,
Third problem----
Playing bass while singing....
this is truly an area where you have to practice alot at it if your not born with it....
i think very few people have this ability....Look at Jimi Hendrix, that guy was just born with it.......I guess practice, practice and more practice would be the answer to all three of your issues,
How many hours a day to you set for yourself to practice alone????
You have to do your homework brutha, because trying to "practice" these things while at band practice can be distracting........
and if you want to better yourself in music, it takes alot of hard work and dedication.....but dont get discouraged, because just like anything else...it pays off in the end....you will be amazed at the outcome....
Hope this helps!! |

On the vocals - I don't know. I have trouble singing. Singing along with a tune is a lot easier than carrying the vocal part of a tune. In a recording environment I tend to double my vocals and that seems to help the sound of my voice alot, but singing a single line in real time with the energy to carry a song is tough.
Practice tends to fix the other stuff. Kindof like driving to work - you do it enough and you don't really think about it - you just get in your car and before you know it you're at work (or the song's over).
If you need a tip sheet, write the first line of each verse to get you rollin if you have trouble remembering the lyrics. |
