These was once a garden here
Growing flowers fresh and fair
There was once a garden here
The smell of lavender in the air
And when the springtime’s faded
And the sunset’s lost its shine
Will you wonder if we’ll ever grow again?
There was once a playground here
Ladders and slides held by little hands
There was once a playground here
Small footsteps printed in the sand
And when the springtime’s faded
And the sunset’s lost its shine
Will you wonder if we’ll ever play again?
There was once a schoolyard here
Children running down the classroom halls
There was once a schoolyard here
Finger-painted pictures hanging on the walls
And when the springtime’s faded
And the sunset’s lost its shine
Will you wonder if we’ll ever learn again?
There was once a child here
A gentle heart and an open mind
There was once a child here
Can you tell him that he’ll be just fine?
And when the springtime’s faded
And the sunset’s lost its shine
Will you wonder if we’ll ever live again?
And when the springtime’s faded
And the sunset’s lost its shine
Will you wonder if we’ll ever live again?
