This is a song I just wrote, yet another folk song...

"The Unknown Soldier"

As I walked down the old dirty sidewalk
Cold was the morning and dark was the day
I spied a young man all wrapped up in old linen
Left without a home, and left without a name

He whispered to me, come sit down beside me
Come sit down beside me, and look me in they eye
For I once was a soldier, but now I am nothing
I知 sick and I知 cold and today I will die

I once was a soldier , I fought overseas
With no one as quick on the trigger as I
I died for them once, now they no longer need me
I知 sick and I知 cold and today I will die

It was on the eve of the third of December
I saw not a thing and I heard not a sound
When out of the darkness I felt an explosion
I screamed out a cry and I fell to the ground

And whenever I wake, I can still feel the pain
My hearing is low and my vision is dim
But they deemed me healthy and threw me back out here
To fend for myself, and now my life is grim

Have sixteen young maidens come sing a sweet melody
Have sixteen young soldiers come carry my pall
And gather red roses all over my coffin
Roses to deaden the dirt as it falls

So beat the drums slowly and play the fifes lowly
Sound a dead march as you carry me by
And over my gravestone please fly our Old Glory
For I知 a young soldier cut down in his prime

He looked up at me and his eyes filled with teardrops
He started to cry and he hung down his head
And then with a gasp, his whole body did shudder
He let out a sigh, and I knew he was dead

We beat the drums slowly and played the fife lowly
And bitterly wept as they bore him away
For we all loved this soldier, so brave and so handsome
Left without a home and left without a name
