Nah.... I don't think it's 100% dead. A lot of the rappers that are coming out into the mainstream sound the same as other rappers that are coming out. It's weird when new rappers come out and they something like "I'm gunna bring something new to hip-hop" or something to affect and then they come out with this crap that sounds just like every other rap video played on MTV or BET. But their are still some decent rappers with good lyrics in the mainstream such as Common, Kanye West, newer Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco, Nas, & others. I like mainstream rap songs but usually it's for the beat and the music and not the lyrics. That's why I like this website and others like it because you get to hear artists from all genres who aren't like mainstream artists and aren't being controlled by the media and record labels.

Early JayZ is fine (another source). He was decent very early. He was a guest rapper on underground artist's albums. Common was underground, turned mainstream, and there is probably some real talent in it. Nas is the FEW in the mainstream that are worth listening to. I can't forget Mos Def. I'm not even sure if Kanye is, by fact, talented. He sticks out too much of the mainstream lyrics (boring - the bragging of money, women, etc.) If he had talent he destroyed it completely. I have to mention I don't want to listen to the fake imitation of HipHop/Rap in the mainstream.

Another topic (music still).
I know of other sites (you should too probably).
AcidPlanet.com is one I can really mention. Others I have are more mainstream, but for the electronica and rock genre.
