This song is about human frailty and how the gradual loss of one's mental and physical faculties ultimately leads to the dissolution of one's humanity. Intelligence, creativity, personality, consciousness, the 'self' - all the facets of humanity that define us as individuals rely on the underlying presence of sanity and expression and without these the consciousness enters strange places indeed. Would you want to live if you knew you wouldn't be living as you? There is a clear pro-euthanasia message here.
As these are lyrics I tend to write with poetic devices such as rhyme, meter, alliteration, etc. at the forefront of my mind. If you want to check out the lyrics in the context of the music, click here.
Enjoy.
Death by Degeneracy
This rotting diseased semblance of soul
has been forced onto me
immuring my reason
bound in fetters of body and mind unsound
such misery
my sanity
is my humanity
cruelly tortured by disability
slowly eating through my identity
images fade away
memories to this day
all that I am will be forgotten
returning me to infancy
crawling through the morass of senility
withered within my decrepit dysfunctional shell
expelling my dignity
knowing not pain nor guilt
devolved to a life benighted of suffering and sin
an innocent state of cognizance inchoate
untouched by fear and hate
time unforgivingly despoils my legacy
growing inside of me
this thing I cannot see
feasts on the flesh within
devouring all sanity
stripping my senses blind
life of dependency
cold stare of absent mind
death by degeneracy
truth apprise me
why must we suffer youth's demise?
euthanize my humiliation
hold me inside
living life in vein
all senses lost
set me free from pain
release me now
