Help,
I had this happen many years ago, but have forgotten what happened to get passed it,
Im noticing myself getting stuck in the same structure of playing...IE: same leads same
rhythm....etc.......i have listened to other genres to try and get some ideas...and i have downloaded different scale excersises...but nothing,
could it be said that after 20+ years of playing guitar, the well is dry??...lol
if you guys have any serious advice,,,,and i mean serious...
not "put some vaseline on my hand and try harder" kind of advice...ive heard it all before...heheheeee
any help would be appreciated!!
Thanks

I've probably posted this quite a bit, but I've found jamming to drum loops brings out all sorts of new stuff. Burn out on one loop, go to the next loop with different feel. There are tons of drum loops out there, but make sure to get acoustic drum loops imho.
Another thing you might try is to get and learn the tab of a song that's different from anything you've ever played before. For me, something like SRV's version of "Little Wing" taught me a bunch of new stuff - completely changed my playing.

That works too.
I've been burned out for a long time and haven't played much after burning out recording/mixing some stuff for some songwriting projects. Complete overkill. It'll eventually come back though. I mentioned the loops and learning new style because it's inspired me in the past. I'm starting to get back now, but not there yet. |

Try different timing signatures on the drum loops maybe? something in 3/4 or 6/4 or something?
Just an idea.

hey Gunner, I was going to suggest putting it down for a bit, but if you feel like playing go get it . . lol
did you ever listen to jazz? try playing along with some Miles Davis, or Mike Stern, or Chris Botti, instead of playing guitar lines listen to the way they play the horn and try to play that, I know Mike Stern is a guitarist , but he plays with a sax player and they play a lot of lines together.
A great Miles Davis record is "In a Silent Way" there's a lot of room to just go for it, also "Aura" is excellent it's more modern and on the cutting edge.
I hope this helps bro
Peace . . . |
