All,
I'm wondering about good ideas for practice space for a band. I've heard that alot will use storage buildings. Any other good ideas?
thanks in advance. |

There used to be a big music store that rented our practice rooms for needy bands. I'm not sure how many in your area would have that capability, but might be worth a shot.
I've known lots of bands that rented out storage buildings too. It's probably cheaper than the first suggestion, LOL...
The last option is relocation into the sticks.. |

Way back when, my -first- ever band used to practice at the local College. Usually after the studens had gone we would get one of the practice rooms. The lecturers and teachers often stayed behind and marked papers for an hour so we used to sling him £10 under the table!
Divided By One had exclusive practice space at Gem's Recording Studio. (See Google.) Its beside a farmhouse in the middle of absolutely nowhere. That was a bit more pricey, £60 a month for an undisturbed 4hour practice a week.
S.E.A & Vesuvian is re-hearsed all at my home. Cool thing about home recording is I can amp up when its early in the afternoon and stick in headphones for night-time.
Ive used some awkward/odd places too.
My old Thrash/Punk band Spit-Roast used a pub backroom on slow evenings when hardly anyone was in. That was out of desperation but we never payed for it. My moms old Shed. A garage. Even the Peterborough (Nearest City) Skatepark hall on tuesday evenings which was pretty cool. It had that urban underworld essence and a lot of the skaters used to come and check us out while they rested.
As long as your undisturbed, its out of the way and you can practice loud without issues, any place is a good place.
A lot of bars or clubs who would otherwise be closed on an afternoon would be worth trying too.

Loungeroom.
Seriously - 4 out of 5 of the band members live here together, so one of our lounge rooms is AMP CITY. (and drum kit town i guess to a lesser extent)...
Anyway - we jam at home, the neighbours never complain but we keep the volume modest and have pads on the drums.
If we want to practice at full volume we go to a rehearsal studio and pay about AU$10/hr.

There's several that we've used.
Sound Level Studios in Ultimo - they're very good, i think Cog used to go there. There's Zen Studios about 10-15mins south of the city (can't remember exactly where) but they're a bit more expensive and out of the way, and there's a couple that we go to these days near Brookvale - i think Moonlight Studios is the one we go to now, and they're pretty good.
It's a good thing we have a Bedford van to cart all the shit around in too.
