No problem. There are lots to choose from; under $300 will get you a Zoom MRS-8 or Fostex MR-8 which record on Flash Cards. The Fostex is a nice little unit with USB and SPDIF, and the Zoom has a built in beat-box rhythm if you want to get tracking quickly.
Around $1000 you enter into the more expensive workstations like the Yamaha AW1600, Roland BR-1200 and Tascam 2488. They are equipped with CD burners, to finish your discs. Personally, I have always enjoyed Yamaha mixing products, but that's just my preference. Every major company has pumped out lemons...
Happy hunting!

Ron,
I agree that a standalone recorder has an appeal. To me it would be simplicity. PC's and creativity don't exactly go together when you have technical issues. The compexity can be a deterrent. The standalone stuff is generally simpler imho. But I do love the mixing and editing options on PC. |

I personally love using Multitracks. I can't do a proper mixdown on a computer. I find that I'm always playing around with the mouse, and never _Listening_. I wound up getting my first one around the time I bought my first couple synths and drum machines and I found my productions got alot better.
Obviously it's a matter of personal taste but I feel multitracks are much better then using a pc.
btw: This is what I got.
