Now come on, why is alternative music so far down the charts? I mean, even the no.1 alternative song is on about page 4 of the charts.

Do we smell? Or is it the way we look? We're nice really, you've just gotta give us a chance....

BTW: George7's new track is really great. (that's my pithy music review)

I see nothing wrong with alternative music, but it just isn't my cup of tea. Of course, some alternative music is damn ok like Rage Against The Machine, System of a Down etc. But it isn't my prior kind of music. My band is playing thrash metal and we aren't on the charts, period. And that's just something to accept. Some people like your music, some people don't. It's how the business works.

I was sorta jokin. Rolling Eyes

Anyway, I hate the phrase alternative. It's such a crap title to be put into because my music doesn't sound anything like Rage Against the Machine (who I'd call rock reall) or someone like They might be giants who probably also count as alternative. It is such a non-description

alternative was a great genre until people started to name every piece of bullshit as "alternative"

I like the term Alternative for the same reason a lot of people don't like it: it's an open-ended category. It's true that there is (or was) a specific Alt sound, but nowadays anything that doesn't fit neatly into a given category (like Jazz, Country or Death Metal) ends up categorized as Alternative.

And that suits me fine. I wouldn't like to be restricted by the traditions of a specific genre. (The fact it, I couldn't if I wanted to.) But I like how I can borrow whatever I need from whichever genre I choose and twist it however I like to suit my songs.

I can, however, appreciate how some people don't like how Alt has turned into a "none of the above" genre.

By the way, who were the original Alt bands? Were they Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Jane's Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers, STP, Blind Melon, and Everclear? Or am I just showing my age? Ha ha.

Old alternative was good..as well as old punk and industrial...nowadays everything is so mixed with everything else its hard to tell what is what anymore....then again it just may be that im old and startin to complain like an old man...you know the old "In my day"..type of thing..lol...im so out of touch with the music scenes these days i just dont pay much mind to anything new anymore...not to mention my own music is hard to put in any set catagory or genre..as an exsample of how out of touch i am..I remember when Crass,The Exploited,Total Chaos,Psychic TV, Sisters Of Mercy,Cure, Bahaus, ect ect was new..and I remember buying the first album of such bands..lol...

Well Indie used to mean not being signed to a major label. (So everyone here at the Unsigned Band Web would qualify as an Indie Artist.)

Of course, designations change and Indie may mean something completely different now.

The only reason I have it as a genre is that some bands requested it.

It seems to me like INDIE is being used more by "euro" alternative artists.

I wouldn't mind consolidating, but as soon as I do, someone will want it back!

LOL...
