So i gotta be honest, i saw the word 'Abstract' and though "oh god...here we go". ACtually i was quite pleased to find out that this is not very abstract at all (it has a nice steady bass kick). Im not sure what qualified the artist to label it as abstract...maybe he will post here and let everyone know...maybe not, but i would classify this as 'Ambient' or maybe "Trip-hop"
So i read on the forum that this artist makes all his beats on the PLaystation, then finializes them on his computer. Without a doubt the best song i have ever heard made on a playstation. I would have never guessed such a thing from listening as the sound quality is pretty good. Needs some work with the levels (too much bass, not enough treble)
The tunes starts out and follows a pretty basic progression upwards. As said everything sounds pretty good. The drums are great. A couple times the piano got a little annoying...however the vox are great. Basically i enjoyed everything about the first half of the tune.
FX added at 2:40 sounds bad...kinda distorts the overall sound.
Towards the end of the song we start getting a taste of some crazy noises which i suppose lead the artist to the classification. ONce again..the overall sounds are killed by some preset modulation or something, which is a shame. This tune would also benifit some some mastering (bringing out the levels with an EQ).
4:13 flew by, so that is a good thing (cause i was never bored, and i listened multiple times). I think the only thing that hurts this song is the use of a standard effect (modulation?) wihich mucks up the tonality. So im talking off 3 points (i heard this happen 3 times i think, once at the beginning, once around 2:40, and then the end), becuase to me it sounds like you just used this effect to use and effect. I think the song would have been totally fine without it. I really dont like that fx (as you can tell) but really enjoy the song overall.
This another one that people you like ambient/chill-out will enjoy.

Thanks for taken time for review.
I have to agree about the effect. Spooky. It was a last minute effect for the effect, because I gotta-new-toy-man.
As for Abstract, have been meaning to change to ambient, but get kinda stuck inda forums
Once again, thanks heaps. Very useful. cheers. |
