thats called latency. the reason for that is using a soundcard which's not designed for making music (Creative and similar products) these kind of cards dont have any drivers specifically configured for low latency (ASIO drivers) since there designed for playing games etc.
to solve your problem you can either buy a new soundcard that's designed for music making (M-Audio Audiophile 2496 PCI, EMU 1212m, Tascam US122 first comes to mind as low-budget models) or if you dont have the cash, you can take a look at http://www.asio4all.com for a generic ASIO driver which will work for any soundcard. it'll work better than your driver, although i remember having some cpu overload problems when i was using it
anyway, when you sort it out, dont forget switching over to your ASIO driver from cubase SX's "device setup -> vst multitrack" menu. hope this helps |

it might be fair to say, that you alway's will have some latency
If you press your keyboard , the signal has to leave your keyboard, go through the cables to your computer, get into your VST instrument, being processed, and being played/recorded.
You can imagine that this takes some time
Some virtual instruments are hard to play life, even with a good soundcard cause it takes a lot of time to process the signal.
Same counts for "real" instruments.
If you play a guitar, and you process it a lot before sending it into your computer with a line-in, you will notice latency as well..... |
