i think your poll is slightly irrelevant to the topic anyway, my lately favorites are 1200 mics, alien project, cpu, delirious, electric universe, space tribe, azax syndrom, 220 volts and prolly some others which i cant recall at the moment |

i find that a bit extreme!
its donkey balls at least!
I have favourites but they tend to change with mood.
at the moment, im listening to a lot of dream theatre, and james la bries latest solo album.
Priest are quite high up, alec empire, neil young, nine inch nails last album was pretty good, nirvanna (a band i used to hate at the time but have grown into since)
Never been a big maiden fan unfortunately, i like a few songs, have their entire back catalogue (except for the 2 albums with Blaze Bailey which also suck donkey balls) they are a band that I think is in need of a damn good remix project to give them a bit of a rawer edge.
Been listening to dylan recently, probably because of the documentary that was on recently.
Pink floyd are great, although again I think they need a good remastering spotlight turned on them too as I find their albums a little too quiet and polite.
Black sabbath are great, but I have to admit that although I like the Ozzy stuff, I prefer the early Dio era, where I feel that they really started to fly as a band, although it was freefall back to earth afterwards.
I have listened to and have so many albums by so many different people that it is difficult to pick favourites. There are a few turds in the collection, but most of them are all favourites in some way shape or form depending on what mood I am in.
I quite like alter bridge, who are that band creed but with better hooks and melodies and less of the religious side which I just dont identify with.
Marley is cool, Deep purple (Has to be the coverdale era though, although I am sure there are a few purists who would probably burn me at the stake for that one, and the Dio comment earlier, but Stormbringer is one of my all time favourite albums) is a fave, Metallica (when they still knew how to play) Rush are a favourite (especially after seeing them live) Tom petty is always good, Van Halen (Again I have to admit I prefer the Hagar stuff to the Roth stuff, more melodic), I used to be a big Who fan until the child porn thing a couple of years ago which put me off Pete Townshend, Im a big fleetwood mac fan (the popular version), Pantera from the cowboys from hell era, Joe Walsh is a personal fave (Not in the eagles though where he was smothered by Henley and Frey despite being the more talented of the lot), I also have a soft spot for early springsteen, Sisters of Mercy, Queen, Muse, Definately Megadeth (I always preferred them over Metallica), and the lords of thrash, Slayer.
I could go on and on all night, and I havent even looked at my CD collection (Which is currently residing in several large black bin bags and boxes while I decorate the house)
Oh....and no one, and I repeat.....No one brings a smile to my face quite like William Shatner in full on Mr Tambourine man mode!

hey aswepe, you have some pretty good stuff there.
i disagree with the rush one though, i like their first album, it shows a different side to them before the progressive influence of Peart came in, but its caress of steel that i have never really gotten on with. dont know what it is about that album, it just seems disjointed and doesnt flow well to me. Ive got all of their albums up to Grace under pressure, then i miss the rest up to test for echo. I think their last album proper, vapour trails was one of the best.

That's like asking what you're favorite food is... You can't! It goes on and on. You should have asked, "What's your favorite time?," or some other vague question. No offense, of course.
But Zep really kick's ass. |

thanks dagon for the comment on black sabbath and ronnie james dio.i thought maby i was the only one that thought sabbath with dio was greatly under rated.dio is technically a better vocalist than ozzy is, but i thought also he brought a fresh breath of creativity to the group in the early 80s.also if you get the chance, check out the one album sabbath did with ex deep purple singer ian gillan.the album was called born again.very heavy and truly a classic heavy metal album looking back at it now.cheers!don boston , winnipeg canada |

dagon made a few good points regarding rush.first one being there debut album in 1974.its a great straight ahead rock album with just a "tinge"of progressive song structure.certianly when john rutsy left(the drummer)and neil peart came in,neil really changed and influenced the other members..the main difference on that first album compared to the later ones is the lyric writing.the lyrics on the first album are not exacly the most inteligent.you can really hear some zeppellin influence on that album as well.but peart came in and is perhaps the most inteligent lyric writer in rock history along with jon anderson and chris squire from yes...in regards to the "caress of steel "album, aperantly when that album came out, geddy lee said in a interview in the 1990s that if rush was ever going to call it quits it would of been when that album came out.i dont think they are even a big fan of that album eather.personally i like the album.it has some funy moments like the song "i think im going bald"but i really like the guitar work alex lifson does on it.but overall id say it isint the strongest album they did.but hey there writing and musicianship is so damn good who else compares to them except maby yes or king crimson. |

Hi donn, great to see another Dio era sabbath fan. The first 2 albums they did with him were excellent, he really gave them a collective kick up the ass musically, and the simpler metal style they played really suited his voice as opposed to Rainbow, who while still great, smothered him a little in technical virtuosity.
I didnt however like dehumanizer very much, there were one or two good tracks, but they didnt seem to recapture the sound they got on the first couple of albums.
I have been a little disapointed with Sabbath in recent years since they got back with Ozzy though. No new material, only live concerts focussing on only the ozzy era stuff (Which admitedly a lot of people want to hear) but they seem to have become like the eagles now, ever touring, ever keeping everyone waiting for the new album that is never going to come, ever hoovering up cash as easily as they can.
I do have the Born again album, but have to admit it isnt one of my faves. Yes it does rock, Gillan is in top form as are the band, but I have always been put off by the production quality which I feel is far from superb. Sabbath are one band that should not produce themselves.
Glad you like Caress of steel, I knew that someone out there would! lol. I agree it does have its moments, but for me the longer tracks just dont seem to hold my attention like 2112 or Hemispheres do.
You mention Yes and King Crimson, both also excellent bands. I have been trying to get Discipline by King Crimson for years, but it is always an expensive album to buy, and I refuse to pay lots of money for old albums.
I think that after a while, i think that all records should come down permanently to a reasonable price (About £4.00 each), I dont see why people should have to pay more for records made in the 70`s.
Some folks are just greedy though!
