Hey, so just wondering, are there any roots folk usicians out there anymore? Like, Woody Gutherie/Bob Dylan style folk. Because I damn well can't find many. Everything labeled "folk" nowadays is just any music with just acoustic guitar and vocals. I myself am a folk singer, but it's hard as hell to find people to collaborate/share ideas with. I mean, I also do Rock and stuff, but folk's my favorite So, yeah, ANYONE OUT THERE?

hey man, you might check out buffalo son here... He's got a really cool americana folk style that I think is really good.
You can read our interview with him in the 'interviews' link at the top of this page. There's a link to his site here with more songs as well..
Happy listening!

thank you, ron.
tyler...
i guess I do play some music that is in the vein of folk, but you are pretty much right on track when you say that nowadays folk is anything with an acoustic guitar and vocals. or at least labeled such.
but i can answer your question and say that if you want something similar to woody guthrie or bob dylan (folk in that vein) you'll likely never find it in contemporary music. that music captured moments in history. i'm not sure it can happen like that... if everything can come together like that today. i'm having a hard time putting this into words.
HOWEVER... I highly recommend Will Oldham and all his projects: Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Palace Brother, etc. He is a man of beauty. |

Thank you, friend. My swords are momentarily sheathed. Though the sharpening stone is always close at hand. |
