This is a song I wrote about the value placed on what is not really ours. It's definitely Gutherie-influenced, so it's a little basic, but hey, I wrote it in 5 minutes, what else do you want?
A Little Tract of Land
"Get ready for the battle"
said the General to his men
"We'll hit'em hard if we hit'em here as planned"
So the general sent a thousand men
off to fight and die
All just for a little tract of land
Chorus:
All just for a little tract,
all just for a little tract,
all just for a little tract of land
"You can't just take my homestead"
Said the farmer to the bank
"A hundred years it's been in family hands"
But the bankers had foreclosed the farm
Left the Farmer homeless
All this for a little tract of land
CHORUS
"Move your people out of here"
Said the cowboy to the chief
Move them to the other side of the mountains
But the Chieftan, he refused to go
So the cowboy killed him
All just for a little tract of land
CHORUS
There'll be harmonica in it, too. I've got a basic melody down, I'll try and record it soon.
