Fellow Music Lovers, Artists, and that guy that posts weird stuff around the forums...
Many of you may have noticed my name on all the time but limited posts over the past few weeks. I've been hard at work on new features for the site  . I'm happy to report that they are now complete and ready for use!!! Here is an outline of what's been added...
 myMusic ... For those of you that use themes OTHER than the default RED, you've noticed a myMusic link at the top of your screen for the past couple of weeks. The link now connects to YOUR favorites! Of course it will start out empty, but you may now begin adding songs to your favorites lists so you can remember them when you come back to visit. When you add a song to your favorites, it also makes you a 'fan' of that song. You can add songs and view fans from the charts page and the myMusic page. I will be adding additional locations to 'add favorites' shortly (mod picks, and artist pages)
myCategories ... As part of the favorites system you can build your own categories. So for example you could put all your favorite 'sad songs' into a category called 'sad songs'. Then you could start another category called 'happy songs' and put all your happy songs there. You can add LOTS of categories to help you sort your favorite songs the way you like. You can also randomly play the songs from any given category (currently only with windows media player). When you click on a category name in myMusic, you will see a play link appear above the listed songs.
Fans ... As mentioned above, when you add a song to your favorites, you become a 'fan' of that song. You can view a songs fans by clicking the fan link in the charts or 'myMusic' page. I have more in store for Fans, stay tuned!
New Charts Pages ... Many of you that have been here awhile know that we constantly seek out better ways (and easier ways) to do things. The last major change to the charts page while adding a lot of information, was too difficult to navigate. The new charts pages are much cleaner and the functions are laid out better (in my opinion). It should be easier to find your favorite music!
Send To Friend ... This one is pretty self explanatory, but I think a really cool feature. We all have friends that don't use the internet as much as us. If you find something you really think your friend should hear, just enter their email address and name and you can send them a song AND a message! The song links are added automatically to the email, you just add the message. The email addresses you enter WILL NOT go into any lists we compile. We hope they may become members based on the quality of our songs, but they will not get additional EMAIL from us just because someone sent them a song. We respect your AND your friends privacy.
Well I think thats about it for now. I'm already working and thinking about the next cool feature to make the UBW better. A lot of my ideas come directly from your comments, so continue to let me know what you like/dislike about the site.
FYI.... Next up....
Ratings ... Total re-work of the site ratings page. (artists ratings pages will not be modified). The current ratings on our site have some serious flaws that reduce their effectiveness. A good music site should have a good way to let 'listeners' decide the quality of the song and let 'others' benefit from those decisions. The new ratings system will not be based on one factor, but multiple factors. I want to build a ratings system that is FAIR, HONEST, and ACCURATE! I am still working out the details, but I look forward to making this happen.
