I am only interested in searching specific types of musical genres. Can someone tell me how to do this please as there doesn't seem to be a 'genres' link at the top of the page 
If this isn't possible would it be possible to think about adding this as a feature to the site? I would love easy access to all the acoustic, rock, indie bands so I can just sift through them one at a time

You can go to the charts page and choose a genre at the top right in a drop down box. For faster searching, use the 'view' all link at the bottom of the main chart which will show a chart with no pictures and more sorting options (including genre)...
Or...
You can use the search block as well, just choose genre, and then enter a genre name. The search feature is somewhat limited as it will only return 100 bands, so the chart feature may be better.
