Hey All,
I'm just wondering something. First though, I'm about to go write a song, cause' the idea just came to mind, but that's the reason for this post.
Last night I had a nightmare, and it happens to be the inspiration for the lyrics. The nightmare was really freaky, because my sisters were in it, and the oldest of the two (both are younger) was killed by me. (me psychotic = false) I don't understand it. For some odd reason, I head-butted the side of her head (??), and then her eyes started to bleed, while she screamed out, "He broke my neck!", a few times. (Sorry, I know that might be too graphic.) I don't get along with this sister much at all, but I wouldn't do that in any situation, ever.
Anyway, I've only known of one song, written by Chino (The Deftones), that was inspired by any dream or nightmare the writer had ("Digital Bath"). I was wondering if any other lyricists on the UBW have written a song based on this type of inspiration? I've got a few lyrical lines in my mind right now, so I'm gonna' go write it. But let me know if this has happened to you, and if you want, share the story. Later! |

lots of beatles songs have come from dreams. Paul McCartney said one of his songs (I can't remember which one now) came almost complete to him in a dream.
I wrote a song about being scared of going to sleep during a bout of about 3-4 months when I had insomnia and was only getting 1-2 hours sleep a night.
It's pretty common I would have thought.
I prefer that half awake/half sleep state. I find lots of things come then. most of them disappear before I put them to paper though. |

I know exactly what you mean, you think of things in the night, and then they just go, before you wrte them down, which is quite annoying, as i could really do with some inspiration at the moment. Grrr. |

Tuttle: I prefer the half awake/asleep state too, sometimes. Your mind can come up with some strange, yet interesting, wordings when your still feeling asleep.
Tuttle and Sean: You guys don't get up from the bed to write out an idea? (-just curious.) In the past, if I had an idea come to mind while trying to sleep, and I didn't write it down, I wouldn't have fallen asleep. There used to be times that I'd try to fall asleep without writing something down, but I always remained awake until it was written. It's like I would lay there and find myself thinking a lot about the way the song would sound when written, and it would keep me up. Now, I just get up and write it, and then go to sleep. Later! |

I've had a couple melodies / choruses come to me while sleeping. Even hear harmonies and stuff - wakes me up sometimes it's so real. More like they're soundtracks to dreams but they're often pretty cool tunes. |
