Hey Everyone,
I wrote this earlier today (technically yesterday...), and I consider this one to be pretty special. Everything I write is special to me, but some of my lyrics seem to have a greater appeal to me, emotionally. Anyway, this is about a girl I had a relationship with for a long time, and I won't say her name, just in case she ever joins, and would prefer that I didn't. Don't get me wrong; this song is not against her. It's about what happened after the relationship ended. It seems that somehow now, after being each other's significant others, we are closer than ever. She's definitely become my closest friend, and most people don't end up saying, "My best friend is someone who I used to date." That is the reasoning to why I gave it the title, "A Priceless Rarity".
"A Priceless Rarity"
Times have changed.
-Kind of strange
how the days
have evolved, from
yesterday to today.
This grin on my face
is real.
Look close and you'll see,
it forms arrows
pointing to the tools
of my observation.
I see mutual satisfaction.
We enjoy it,
now that we both know-
(Pre-Chor.):
Before is how it was.
-The past.
Today is how it is.
Oh...
Tommorow
will be alright.
(Chorus):
This was meant to be.
This was meant to be.
It's so wonderful.
You're happy. I'm happy, too.
We have changed.
We have aged.
There's no pain.
We have moved on,
to a new plane, but remain
here, in a different phase
revealed.
-One where we now sing
like two sparrows.
We have seperate tunes,
still, they're relative.
It seems unusual, we both have this
enjoyment,
now that we both know-
(Pre-Chor.)
(Chorus)
(Very Short Interlude, before Bridge):
Well, this feels just right, to me.
-How about you?
It's a rarity
without cost, and only gain.
We put the relics, in a hole,
and covered them
with the dirt that
came from our souls.
-Still left-over;
Now we're rid of it.
(Revised Chorus):
This was meant to be.
This was meant to be.
We're seperate, but united,
at the same time,
and happy.
EnD
If anyone reading this, now thinks I'm strange, it's understandable, but I cherish what has transpired. Also, not to lessen the importance I see in that friendship, but how many people have actually been able to write a song about this subject? I've only seen one, by Gwen Stefani (-didn't inspire this song), and I don't really admire her too much, because I don't see "This shit is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S!" as being a good piece of lyricism. I know the song that says that is not the song that talks about her friendship with her ex, but it's hard for me to respect her, as a writer, when her lyrics can be as stupid as that line (-That's just how, and what, I think).
Before I close this post, let me just say that the verses in this song seem very long, but they're sung pretty quickly, and the song really isn't too much longer than a typical radio single. And now I must make my exit, cause' I just must.
Cheers and a smile, All!
