Hi Everyone,
I finally got the boys set up on UBW and have taken the time to read through the forums and gotten to know a little bit about several of you and have gotten to know Ron from his quick great responses to my questions.
Now that I have "settled" in I thought I would take a few minutes and a little space to introduce myself and the band I represent.
My name is Tammie and I am currently acting as temporary manager for the band 7 Times Over which my son formed 2 years ago with 2 of his friends. Anthony (my son) is 18, David (bassist) is 18 and Chris (drums) is 17.
The boys spend their time writing music, practicing, going to school and other typical teen activities and my job is to get them gigs, keep up their web site, promote them and dish out the moolah to support the band.
I know a lot of parents don't support their kids getting into the music scene because of the repuation of "sex, drug and rock & roll" and they feel it is a dead end career and their chances are slim of ever making it anywhere. I however support them 100% because I believe they should do something they love to do and if they make it anywhere that is just a bonus. As for the old "sex, drug and rock & roll" kids now days don't have to be in the music scene to get into that! I am however making them all go ahead and go to college and continue their education so they have something to fall back on.
I am currently having a practice/recording studio built in my back yard for them (aren't the neighbors going to love me ) I am hoping with a place of their own to practice and record that they will improve instrumentally and vocally (they aren't very loud and my son is going to the orthodontist to fix a space in his teeth that makes a hissing sound when he sings). They also need to work on their live performances which everyone tells me will improve the more they perform.
Anyway, I look forward to learning more from all you veterans and hope you don't mind if I ask a million questions to help me help my boys!
Thanks for the warm friendly place to hang out!
Tammie

Tammie,
I really enjoyed reading your background and info on 7 Times Over... It was really quite touching!
Your support of 7 times over and willingness to help them out is nothing short of incredible. I agree that musicians over the years have gotten a bad reputation, but I think it's because of lack of input from parents. Your direct involvement will mean TONS to keeping them on a good path! I agree with keeping their education going as well. The reality is, very few make it!! But you know what, the ride is WELL worth it. I wouldn't have traded all my shows throughout college for ANYTHING. I still play acoustic and write in my free time now, but me "REAL" job pays the bills. (That is until this website can sustain me... LOL )
I do think that 7 times over has a lot of potential... They're young and seem to have a good grasp of writing songs. The more they practice and write together as a band, the better their chances of succeeding!
Everything you said in your post validated why I created this website to begin with. It is very refreshing to know that their are people like you out there! It is a real pleasure to have you here!
I look forward to watching 7 times over as they grow and continue to develop their talents.
Thanks again for a wonderful post!
