well, it was an awesome organization. what do you people think about it if you have watched? you missed a lot if you havent
imo the best performances were kanye west, scissor sisters and, pink floyd of course, even though i've never been their listener. brian wilson, pete docherty, coldplay were the worst i've watched
you can dl the pink floyd performance here, like 80 megs, a little shitty in sound quality though

I didn't watch it... but I was outraged to hear that some of the bands were paid.
It's not realy charity when you get paid; is it?
I also heard p-f turned down £150,000,000 to do a tour of the US. f**king Retards.

Sentimentally it was a little touching
Musically I thought it was crap. But it was meant to be popular not good.
Politically and socially it was disgusting (not to say racist and patronising).
For two older gents Bono and Geldof certainly have a lot of flexibility. They seem to have mastered the art of bending over for world 'leaders'. |

coldplay were terrible.
They have to be the worst, most boring band I have ever heard, live and in the studios. Travis aswell. Travis lick balls
also dude... coldplay 'were' good...not 'where good'.
That'salmost as bad as me spelling 'hear' as 'here'
Speak to you later if I don't go out... |

I live pretty far from Philedelphia, London is an ocean away, as is S. Africa, and I never really found out where the fourth show was held. But... I saw about 8-10 hours worth of many of the performances on TV, and I can give a breakdown of it...
First, I wanna say something about Madonna's performance. I don't listen to her, but that isn't my point. Pretty close to the beginning of her performance, she yells out something like, "Let me f*ckin hear you!" Now, I don't see anything wrong with that happening at most Rock concerts, but was it necessary for her to say that at Live 8? Snoop Dog (Dogg?) was different, because he's a rapper, and it's to be expected. Seriously though, those of us who are against censorship in the U.S. know what the F.C.C. is. They flip out over any kind of vulgarities. I am pretty much one of the people at the front of the line, when it comes to thinking the F.C.C. sucks. The problem I had with Madonna doing that was only because of the fact that I saw a lot of children in the audience who looked to be 10yo., or younger. If I was already a father right now, I would want freedom of speech for them, but I wouldn't want them to hear that until they were at least 13.
Second, Pink Floyd. Amazing! I just sort of sat there and wished I could've been around when rock music was that beautiful. They did great, and I'd actually enjoy being part of the crowd at one of their shows.
Third, Keane. There's something about Keane that really pulls me in. I've always been one to listen to the heavier, darker sounding music (Korn, Deftones, Tool, etc.), but my taste is changing and now I like Keane, Coldplay, and a lot of other bands. I saw three songs from Keane's performance at the London show, and I think it was very nice. It's strange to think that I couldn't stand that general sound in music, less than three months ago.
Fourth, Sting's performance was really good, too (what I saw), and I really didn't expect that. I never gave the police much of a chance, because I always had a close-minded taste of music, until very recently. They were just another 80's band to me. "Message in a Bottle" was very fun to watch/hear on the TV.
There were other things about the Live 8 performances I saw that were very cool, but I gotta wrap this up. The last thing I'll say, is I can't stand the Dave Mathews Band, though they have talent, but I just don't like that sound. So, I'd say that their performance, or at least what I saw of it was the worst. The reason behind the shows... I'm not sure about that. I know Africa is doing very bad with all the poverty, but honestly, I really can't say whether or not I think those shows will help much. I hope so, but I don't know... Anyway, Cheers, Everyone!

On the issue of swearing; I noticed the greenday dude swear once or twice... despite the fact that 90% of greendays fanbase is 12 and under (oh, it never used to be).
Why? Because it's the 'punk rawk' thing to do.
I despise greenday now. |

I like the old Green Day better, too. "Nimrod" was a decent album, in my opinion, but I really don't like the sound of "American Idiot". It sounds too much like pop-punk-rock, to me, though Nimrod started heading in that direction. But I don't think anybody could tone down Green Day's cussing, because from what I've heard (I've never seen their show), they've always been that way on stage. I dunno'...
I just think it was useless for Madonna to do that, because I know back when she released the album that included the song, "Ray of Light" (I refer to it as, "The annoyance"), my sister, Jen, was around 7, maybe just a little older. All I know is, she liked that album, and so did a lot of her friends at school, and I could be wrong, but the youngest generation of Madonna fans could currently be around the same age my sister was when she liked her.
That's something funny, too, that I just thought about. Along the same lines of the whole cussing subject matter, I remember a long time ago, my sister (same one) got Jennifer Lopez's album (no idea of the name, but I don't care to know), and there was this one song, something about a DJ, and in the middle of the song Jennifer Lopez decided to have this abrupt pause in the song, immediately followed by her saying "Play my f*cking song!", or something like that. So, my sister was a huge fan, and she asked me to watch the video with her, and I just said, "whatever", and watched it. That part of the song, seriously, has to be the stupidest musical idea she could've come up with. She- Jennifer Lopez- was smiling while she's saying it, and she kind of laughed at the end of the sentence. It kind of reminded me of some crazy drunk girl, at a dance club, requesting a song. For a second, seeing that made me feel a little ashamed that I'm partly hispanic, until I realized that Jennifer Lopez is fully hispanic, and like I said, I'm only partially.
So, did anybody go to the London show? If so, what was that like? Share... I'm leavin' now cause' It's humid again, like yesterday, and the day before, and the day before, and you get the point... Cheers, everyone!

I watched the whole thing.
The main complaint I have about it, for the London show anyway, was that Golden circle crap. The ordinary people were refused beer tents and other refreshments, and were also refused a decent view as thay were fenced off about 100 yards from the stage by this posh peoples area that had champagne and booze flowing. Who were the people in this area? Corporate Bullshit ticket reseving Ill bet. This happens the world over, every gig I have ever been to, the first few rows are always reserved for business and first class. The real fans are the first class, not these freeloaders!
I have to say, I though Madonna was pretty good. I have never really liked her all that much, and have seen her as a kind of Wacko Jacko Miming on stage sort with tons of choreography and little music, but stripped down and singing live, she came across ok, although, yes there was no need for her swearing.
Bono is really needing to f**k off though. Ok, maybe, just Maybe his heart is in the right place, but does he really have to talk down to everyone all the time? Why if he wants to get an important point accross can he not take off those stupid shades, drop the stupid trans atlantic accent and become a real person for once, instead of some lofty untouchable rock star Condescending git.
I agree that coldplay are crap, they are just a second rate U2 to me, but they are a big band now, so I guess I have to get down on my knees and beg their forgiveness for disliking them with a vitriolic passion that I usually reserve for the likes of Travis and Keane.
And Velvet revolver just sucked. I have tried to like them (I am a biased Gunners fan who feels cheated at never getting the chance to see the real thing) They just dont grab me at all, although I conceed that they were pretty much mis cast in the whole thing. Come on Axl, get your ass in gear and back in the band instead of twiddling around with an album that is never gonna be heard!
Pink Floyd were awesome, although I cannot help but feel that they are the most stuborn old men in the music industry. Why did it take a charity event to get them back together after 25 years. Silly old men arguing over who wrote what, when at the end of the day, its the fans that are important.
I think they should have got a noose around Pete Dochertys neck and hauled him off stage. I am sick of reading about this so called talented genius in the tabloids, I have seen absolutely no evidence to suggest that he is anything of the sort. Merely a famous junkie. That cow in the Sun newspapers `Bizzarre` section should be crucified for her needless daily coverage of this twat, as well as her shame faced cuddling up to madonna who is also in this section every other day. (The Bizzarre section claims to be the number 1 showbiz column, but I suspect that she spends her time trawling all of the other newspapers and music columns for her reports, as I have seen her reporting on things weeks after another publication)
It is appaling that some of the acts got paid, particulary in America, where it transpires that Bon Jovi, Will Smith and various others walked away with loads of freebies and goodie bags, rolex watches etc. These buggers should have done this for free, although I suspect that the worlds No. 1 entertainer, will smith requires payment in order to gee himself up for a hard afternoons miming. Wicky Wicky Ha Ha!!.
I was disapointed that I havent seen any Neil Young though, he was supposed to be at the Canada gig, but havent seen anything of that yet. Perhaps I have missed it, although I did see a bit of Deep Purple which was ok, except for the lack of Blackmoreage!
It was an ok day, there was a lot of good stuff, and a lot of crap. Loads of Doritos and Loads of Beer.
The one thing I am wondering now is what was the point?
With live aid, there was an aftermath, where we got to see exactly what the gig had done, but with this, it just seems to have faded away to nothing.
We experienced a lot of violence in scotland during the G8 and it seemed to pretty much cut the balls off of the march to justice thing.
We know what it was for, but What has it achieved?
Does anyone know?

Oh and RiCterMan, I notice you were talking about J-Lo.
What does she do?
She makes failed films.
She makes failed music.
What is her talent exactly?
Yes.... She shakes her ass!
We should team her up with that Victoria Bekham.
Together, they may just make a world beating nothing!

Ha! I completely agree (about J-Lo). -And another thing... Will Smith got a Rolex? I think he can be pretty funny, at times as a comedian, but please... His music just annoys me. He shouldn't have recieved a Rolex, or performed for free; he should've paid the audience! -Just my opinion... Also, seeing Scott Weiland moving like that onstage was a little disturbing. I know he probably did the same thing with Stone Temple Pilots, but his past drug use has really made him look diseased. -And of course' the music (Velvet Revolver) wasn't to my liking, either. Cheers, Dagon!

Yeah your right.
Unfortunately I am not a fan of will smith in any setting, but thats the way it goes.
Some people must like him though. Ive heard of certain tribes in outer Mongolia who might. Wicky Wicky Ha HA!
The most disturbing thing about Scott Weiland I think is the way he seems to have transformed into the Cursed offspring of David Bowie, Rob Halford of the MIGHTY PRIEST! and Callahan from the first Police Academy movie. Unfortunately without the talent of the first two, and without the tits of the last.
Take it easy RiCterMan!
