I have heard some people make some really good tracks with fruitty. I have never used so i dont really know. I think it is based more on making patterns and then applying those patterns tto a song...kinda like reason. cakewalk and cubasis seem more orienteed to creating the entire song...like you make a part then copy it a bunch, but you can change notes if you want to with out having to create a new pattern. If you cant read music i would probably stay away from the later. Fruitty is probably your best bet if you are on a budget...ill give you unproject's msn, he loves to teach (hahaha, just kidding ) |

Am starting to get the hang of Cakewalk and to a smaller degree, FL.
I'd say what what I mainly use, but I cop a bit of crap whenever I do, so I won't
It appears Fruity, Reason and cubasis are the most widely used. |

we use fruity loops, think its the bomb and doesnt deserve its critisim for not being up there with cubase etc.. but once you have mastered it and learnt how to use, its just as powerful as any other programme...
but this debate is to a personal preference... stick to what is best for you.... and what you find delivers the best results to your personal producing style... |

i use flstudio, and it's fairly simple once you get the hang of it. it took me probably one or two weeks before i got it down, but now it's like second nature. fruityloops is what i'd suggest you use for at least when you're just starting out. |

As an engine of writing patterns fl is the easiest and best software ever.Writing by patterns and using the piano roll gives you lots of oppurtunities. But the thing is only fl is never enough you got to go and find samples, sounfonts and plug-ins.In my opinion the best way is that first to create basics of the songs with fl than taking them one by one as wav files and combining them in cubase or cool edit so you can do proper mastering and editing. But fl kicks ass thats for sure. |

you can do a lot of stuff with fruity loops its easy to make complete songs
as long as you have other programmes for recording your own samples etc
we make all our songs through fruity loops and use them as the mastered versions
check out these songs if your interested they were all done on fruity loops

Hi all,
I also use FruityLoops to make my beat or electro sound samples, and you really can do an entire track with that... Lots of well known hiphop or RnB tunes have been realised with FL studio (Destiny child, Jay-Z...)
Game is one of my track that is entire made of FL... take a listen!
cheers!

I've been using Fruity Loops for a few years now. And I've come such a long way with it. It's definatly a great choice for somebody just starting out in music making. If you feel like listening to some of my tracks go here, www.soundclick.com/skoolyd |

For the money Fruity Loops is the shiznit. Buy the full version, learn to use it backwards and blindfolded then, get the cash together and go nuts and invest in some quality plug-ins... You want a great sampler like Kontakt and some kick-ass soft synths. I like my Sytrus, but it is a little tweeky to program. Also nice to have would be some sound-mangling effects, check out Ohm Force, for example. You can download a lot of freeware plug-ins. There is a free SIR (convolution) reverb out there waiting for you.
BUT, don't let yourself get LAZY. It is SO easy to do some stuff in the digital domain... I try to avoid using presets and loops. Make your own. You will feel better about yourself and your art (even then there are some smug cats just dieing to tell you how they spotted that patch you spent hours building from scratch on their Grandma's Kurzweil).
I do not endorse using cracked software, it is stealing and it is wrong. That said, you can get your hands on almost anything to check it out and see if it feels good for your creative flowing. I still use Acid Pro for heavy glitching and maiming of individual tracks . Ableton is like, cream, Baby, cream.
Peace.
Checxk out the oboe in my track, "Completion" . It was a sound font I pulled off the web, for free (i paid for the sound-font player)- and it is beautiful!

I've just started using Acid Dj 2.0. I'm not sure if this kind of program is what you guys are talking about (new to all this)*, but I'm pretty sure it is. Still exploring it, so far its great! |

I am a Reason user. I used FL but have never really liked it. I use also some freeware synth emulators. |
